CASE that Designer - Watercolour Emboss Resist

A few Challenge sites do challenges where you are to CASE one of their designers. So they post a card from that particular designer and you choose an element from that card and base your design around it. I want to do a similar thing with a designer who has totally inspired me. Her name is Gail Ellis and I ran across her work on Pinterest which led me to her blog, Blue Rose Paper Treasures. She is such an artist, and one of her designs was an emboss resist watercolour that inspired my card today. Well, to be honest, more than inspired. Practically gave me the whole idea.

I used a few more colours in my watercolouring and embossed instead of stamped my sentiment, and added an extra layer to my card, but those are minor changes, really. I love this technique.

  • In retrospect, I think I would have rather stamped my sentiment in a darker colour instead of using the emboss resist on it, because it would stand out better and make a nice contrast.
  • The key is to use Watercolour Paper and to dry your paper in between colours and layers. (Layers are when you go to add more of the same colour in an already painted area.)
  • I make good use of my extra Stamparatus plates for taping down my watercolour paper when doing watercolouring. The grid on them helps you to tape evenly for an even frame around the painted area, they are flat and just the right size, so portable. They are easily cleaned off afterwards, as well.
  • The Wonderful Romance stamp set supplied the image that was stamped in Versamark ink and covered in White Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set. The sentiment, which was treated the same way, came from the Picture Perfect Birthday stamp set.
  • I used an Aqua Painter with ink from Mango Melody, Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana and Highland Heather Classic Stampin' Pads.
