Age Awareness with a Cherry on Top for As You See It Challenges

How's your age awareness? Mine is too darn good! I went for a long walk yesterday with some friends and ended up with a sore foot that I had to ice to relieve the swelling and pain! That wouldn't have happened even three years ago! My body keeps telling me that it doesn't work as well as it used to. As I make an effort to exercise to improve my fitness level, the old body keeps letting me know that it isn't going to be as easy as all that! So, yes, I'm very Age Aware! But all this to tell you that I used the Age Awareness stamp set for stamping this new card for a sketch challenge from As You See It Challenges, and complimented it with new paper from the Cherry On Top Designer Series Paper Stack.  Here's the sketch:

I stuck pretty closely to the sketch for this one because I loved the opportunity to use the bow builder punch again. I love those little bows!

  • Don't you just adore the colours in this Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack. They are so bright and full of life! Perfect for a birthday celebration! I like the way the balloons I stamped using an image from Age Awareness echo the balloons on the designer paper. Here's some great news - the DSP stacks are now 6" x 6" which means the paper can be oriented either landscape or portrait, depending upon the way your card is turned. Still a great deal, you get forty-eight double-sided sheets (4 each of 4 designs) for only $10!  And have you noticed that Stampin' Up! has started offering a coordinating cardstock pack for each of its Designer Series Paper collections! Helps to keep your projects coordinated and enables you to get the most from your DSP!
  • The Bow Builder punch is a favourite of mine since it arrived on the scene last year. It makes the most attractive little embellishments to add to all your projects. Be aware that you must punch twice to have enough pieces to assemble the bow!

Well, that's it for today! It's Friday and time to wrap up so I can work on preparation for my new Catalogue Launch tomorrow from 1 to 4 pm. I hope to see you there. There will be games, goodies, and make and takes featuring new catalogue products. Be prepared for great door prizes! And I have so many retired products looking for new homes! For every dollar you spend on retired merchandise, you will get 50% in free new products! (Rumour has it that you might even get to sample some real Mint Macarons!!) Let me know if you're planning on attending here.

Non-Christmas Birthday Awareness for Freshly Made Sketches

I needed a break from Christmas cards!  I've been going non-stop Christmas for days now.  It was refreshing to check out my other stamp stash.  When I looked at Freshly Made Sketches Challenge Sketch # 164, the first thing I thought of was Striped Grosgrain Ribbon.  I know most people used the middle panel for a stamped image, but the striped ribbon vision was a persistent one, and, as you can see, it won out!  The ribbon in the sketch was kind of incorporated into the ribbon panel. Then I had to come up with images and/or a sentiment that would go above and below the panel, and Age Awareness was a clear winner!

Here's my birthday card:

  • LOVE the colours in this card! Silver, Whisper White and Bermuda Bay make such an eye-catching combination.
  • The Striped Grosgrain ribbon looks like it was made for this stamp set, Age Awareness because of the stripes in the letters.  This font is a personal favourite.  I think it's the roundness of the letters, the scrolly lines and the striping inside the letters that caught my eye when I first saw it and have kept my attention all the way through.
  • You may be wondering about the little silver stars.  They were from July 2014's Paper Pumpkin Kit.

This is just one of the perks of having a Paper Pumpkin Subscription - you sometimes get left-over materials that you can use on other projects.  Paper Pumpkin prepaid subscriptions are a great Christmas gift for the crafter in your family.  Email me if you are interested.
  • Now for the star of the show, Ta Da!:  The Bow!!  To make it I simply crossed the ends of a 10 inch piece of the Bermuda Bay Striped Grosgrain Ribbon over each other on a bit of an angle and flipped it over, the pinched it in the middle.  I secured it in the middle with a scrap piece of Bermuda Bay 1/8" Taffeta ribbon, tied in the back with a knot after one or two wraps around the middle.  I trimmed the ends with a V notch by folding the ribbon exactly in half and snipping from the center on a angle to the outside corners.  Glue dots adhere it to the ribbon wrapped around the center of the Whisper White panel.

Happy Age Awareness Day!

There's nothing like turning sixty to make you aware of age and aging!  Forty is the new thirty, not even middle-aged!  By fifty you have to admit middle-age, but you still have a decade of lots of energy and the benefits of having reached a time in life where you usually have more resources and fewer dependents!  But when you hit sixty, you have no choice but to view your mortality squarely in the face!  Happy Age Awareness Day!

One of our best friends recently turned sixty and I wanted to come up with a masculine card that added a little light humour to the situation!  As I looked through my stamp sets, I settled on the Age Awareness set and the Traveler set.  I got out my Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Here's a closer look:

  • I love the script on the happy birthday stamps and I absolutely L.O.V.E. the photopolymer stamps! It's so easy to get them straight and positioned right where you want them.  I'm not sure why I was reluctant before, but I think it was because all the first sets we got had stamps that were tiny and I never know what to do with those babies!  I am now a total convert though!  Bring on more of them!
  • I grunged up the Typeset paper with the splotch from Gorgeous Grunge.  (That's as opposed to the splatter and the drip!  You know what I mean, right?)  And I used Soft Suede ink for that job, as well as sponging edges.  The happy birthday was stamped in Early Espresso.

  • Where do you suppose that big 60 came from?  Did you guess one of the Typeset paper designs? Well, you are right.  I cut them right out of that sucker and added the 'th' with one of the Project Life Journaling pens.  Kind of makes it look like a ransom note doesn't it?
  • Don't you love that sentiment?  I chuckled as I stamped it in Soft Suede ink.  The humour was not lost on our friend who has a slightly sarcastic sense of fun!
  • The camera image from the Traveler stamp set was stamped in Early Espresso and fussy cut before adding it to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The front panel was also popped up with Dimensionals.

Thanks so much for dropping by today!  Just a reminder about our Big Shot Promotion this month.  It's good through August 31st.  Don't have a Big Shot yet?  Maybe this is the time to get one!  Already have one?  Get an amazing bundle at 15% off!
