Chalkboard Mother's Day Card for Freshly Made Sketches

As promised, I'm trying out a number of different Mother's Day designs over the next couple of weeks, hoping to come up with one that would be perfect for you to make for your mom! This one is more trendy with the chalkboard designs and the sequin swag on the side, but also pretty with the flower images and delicate with the eyelet edging! The layout comes from Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #182:

Here's more details on how to make it:

  • The stamp set I used is called Bloom with Hope. It is a Hostess set so you can only get it through hostess rewards. You can host a workshop at your house or mine, or submit your own order of $200 or more to get hostess rewards. The sketched designs work well with the ColorBox Chalk Ink pads. Here I've used Rose Coral and Yellow Citrus.
  • The paper is our new Chalkboard Paper which has a chalkboard finish on one side and works perfectly with the Chalkboard ink. I created the eyelet edges using the Finishing Touches Edgelits. I don't know if you can see it, but under each eyelet edge, I've added some Blushing Bride Chevron Ribbon peeking through the holes in the eyelet.
  • The sentiment is from the Mother's Day stamp set Sweet Laughter but it comes as one long line. To make it work for this card I masked the Mother's Day and inked up and stamped the Happy on top, then cleaned my stamp and masked the Happy and inked up and stamped the Mother's Day. A piece of cellophane tape works fine to mask the parts you don't want to show.
  • The little swag on top is made from Venetian Crochet Trim and Gold Sequin Trim pieces folded in half and tied with a piece of Blushing Bride Baker's Twine. I added it to the card with Glue Dots.

Bloom with Hope for Freshly Made Sketches

I needed a sympathy card this week and I turned to a stamp set that I haven't used for awhile, even though it has beautiful images and sentiments. It's Bloom with Hope and it is a Hostess set from the Annual Catalogue, which means it is only available for those who are receiving Hostess Benefits. So if you would like to get this set, you either need to place an order of $200 or more by yourself, or get some friends together and let them help you reach that threshold. The hostess stamp sets are priced lower so you get more bang for your reward buck! Hosting a private class during Sale-A-Bration is a good move, too, because Stampin' Up! has added to the rewards for qualifying parties! Contact me and we'll set a date!  For the layout of this card, I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #177:

And I used the colour palette from Colour Throwdown Challenge #333:

Here's how they look together:

  • On the Whisper White panel I stamped two of the blooms in Perfect Plum ink and a background bloom in Wisteria Wonder. These images are from the stamp set, Bloom with Hope. Using Old Olive ink on the large splotch from Gorgeous Grunge, stamped off, I added some green to the center of the blooms. I wasn't entirely sure I wanted to do that, but after some test stamps, I decided to go with it.
  • I used narrow panels of Perfect Plum and Wisteria Wonder cardstock for the side panels from the sketch, but they looked so plain on their own that I added some Venetian Crochet Trim, which gave me the look I was after.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Old Olive on the Whisper White banner backed with Old Olive cardstock, and the embellishment is from the Artisan Embellishment kit.
There is a sad story behind this card. There was a couple from the church we used to attend, that my husband and I loved and respected. They were strong role models for us as they weathered many storms together with faith and hope, including the loss of their son to cancer, severe hearing impairment for the husband and many other challenges. They were inseparable until just recently, when the husband finally passed away. His wife bravely fought on alone for awhile, but her heart was broken and she just passed away herself within a year of losing her lifelong companion. The card is for their family to tell them how much their parents meant to us. I hope Ken and I will be able to live as faith-filled a life as they did.

Timed Stamping for As You See It Challenges

Arggggh!  Another timed stamping challenge for As You See It Challenges!  Do. Not. Like.  But it does challenge me and that's what challenges are all about.  This one turned out not half bad!

Here's the challenge:

When I saw Shades of Yellow, I immediately thought Sunflowers!  I went looking for a sunflower image among my stamp sets and many were close, but I didn't see a good one until I opened up Bloom with Hope! I feel I must apologize for featuring this set so much, but versatility and usability, along with great design are the marks of a classic stamp set.  I'm sad that it is a Hostess set because they always retire at the end of the year and so your time is limited.  Make sure you don't miss it!  You must be a Hostess in order to have access to this set.  Contact me and we can set up a date for your own workshop.

Speaking of which:  If you book a workshop and hold it before October 31, you will win a free stamp set called Good Greetings!

  • We had 10 minutes to complete the card from start to finish.  I finished just under the wire in 9 minutes, 45 seconds.
  • After a couple of false starts with the stem and some Pear Pizzazz, I decided to do without the stem and just stamped the sunflower-like bloom in Crushed Curry and added some So Saffron splotches from Gorgeous Grunge.
  • The sentiment is also from Bloom with Hope and I really like the script for all the sentiments in the set.
  • I used almost all the yellow shades I have in stock:  Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight and So Saffron.  I didn't use Hello Honey because it has some grayness in that shade that didn't mix well with the warm feel of the other yellows.
  • The burlap ribbon with the Crushed Curry Candy Dots is a perfect finish.
Have some fun yourself with this challenge.  Don't be intimidated by the time, just do your best and if you go over the 10 minute mark, just say so on your entry.  And let me know if you want to schedule your own workshop.  You can earn fabulous hostess rewards, plus win a free stamp set!
