Birthday Blooms Painted with Love

I know, I know, it's Friday and it's a new As You See It Challenge day, and I don't have a sample for the Design Team. Well, it's a long story, but this is the first time I've missed a challenge in...well, since we got the challenge back up and running over a year ago. But there was so much work surrounding the Craft Crop last weekend, and then I had to leave a day and a half later for my visit with my daughter, and meantime, I had to get my newsletter out, for which I didn't even get time to do a tutorial, which I'll have to complete next week and..well, you get the picture. Here, by the way is the challenge banner for this week. I hope you'll be able to give it a try.

Anyway, I did happen to have this sample that I completed at the crop. (Why didn't I do a challenge sample instead? I'll never know!)

I am thinking that I will do this card as my late Free Tutorial for March. Maybe it will make up for being late:

If I do a video tutorial, I can demonstrate the very cool background technique I used here. If you want to get in on this tutorial then sign up for my free newsletter by entering your email address in the field below and clicking on Go. There is the understanding that you can easily unsubscribe at any time.

The Polished Stone Technique for As You See It Challenges!

This Friday's As You See It Challenge #155 is all about what you do when your mojo has left you behind. How do you get you creative juices flowing again? It's a bit of a different challenge, in that it is a Fill In the Blank. You complete the sentence with a word or phrase that suits you, and then you make your project based on that word or phrase:

My answer to this is: When I lose my craft mojo, I: look for a new technique to learn!  And I did! Since we have our Glossy Cardstock back in the catalogue, I was looking for some techniques to use with it, since it's been soo long since we last carried it. All I could remember was the Shaving Cream technique. What I found was beautiful and easy: The Polished Stone Technique! Here's my card that features the Polished Stone Technique on Glossy White Cardstock:

  • The polished stone part is the background behind the stamped sentiment. It's subtle, in this case, but doesn't have to be. It's an easy technique and a great deal of fun to do.
  • I'm featuring this card and this technique in my August newsletter, and you will get a free step-by-step photo tutorial giving you the instructions on how to make this card, including the instructions for the Polished Stone Technique. In addition, my newsletter includes a video presentation on this same technique in the Stamp Tip of the Month section. I don't want to go into much detail here because of this.
  • If you would like the free tutorial and video on how to make this lovely card and how to do this technique, all you need to do is to sign up for my free monthly newsletter below. Just add your email address to the space below and click "Go". I normally only send out one email a month, which is the newsletter, and occasionally another if Stampin' Up! comes out with a special offer mid-month that I didn't catch in my newsletter and I don't want my customers to miss out on. You have the option to unsubscribe at any time very easily.

  • The stamp set used here is called Lots of Love. I really like the bold font which makes it the focal point of the card. It's a great one to use with this technique.
  • The Designer Series Paper in the background is called Whole Lot of Lovely DSP, and it fits right in with the Soft Sky in the card design. I used three colours of the 3/8" Shimmer Ribbon, Pool Party, Powder Pink and Pear Pizzazz, and today's blog post is brought to you by the letter P!
