Say Hello to an Old Friend

Remember Always Artichoke?  It's been forever since I got him out and made a card with him. I kind of missed the old guy and I admit that I've been two-timing with Mossy Meadow! But recently, I had a card to make for a good friend of ours and as I was planning the design in my head, my eye fell on a slightly dusty, unused pile of Always Artichoke cardstock! "Aha! That will be my card base," I thought, "but what should I pair it with?" As I leafed through my Designer Series Paper, a small piece of Tip Top Taupe from the In Colour DSP Stacks fluttered to the floor. I picked it up and tried it against the Always Artichoke.  "Wow! Awesome masculine combination!" said I in delight and the rest is history! So say hello to an old friend, Always Artichoke, a bit neglected lately, but rejuvenated with a new In Colour, Tip Top Taupe.  Here's the combination I used for this card:
Always Artichoke         Tip Top Taupe         Whisper White

  • Our friend, Garry, really likes antique cars! In fact, he just likes cars period! One of the activities that was planned for his birthday was a chance for him to drive a race car at the local racetrack. Unfortunately, that fell through, but it gives you an idea of his passion for vehicles. So I naturally had to go with this image from the Guy Greetings Stamp Set. If you don't have this set yet, it is fabulous for making cards for guys. It has great images and sentiments all geared to men and well worth the price for all the use you will give it.
  • The Designer Series Paper (hereafter referred to as DSP for conservation of energy and bandwidth) I chose was this Tip Top Taupe script pattern from the 2015-17 In Colour DSP Stack. I backed it with some Tip Top Taupe cardstock.
  • The main panel was stamped in Tip Top Taupe and Always Artichoke and I added three little Candy Dots (another old friend I haven't used for awhile) for balance.
  • The envelope liner is made from the In Colour Envelope Paper using the stripes design.
This is a simple layout, but very easy to complete and it makes a no-fuss kind of masculine card that is appreciated by many guys.

Thanks for stopping by today. I will be back tomorrow with a new fancy fold design! TTFN!

More Craft Fair Stuff

I was a busy bee yesterday, preparing for the craft fair tomorrow.  I wanted to share a couple of things I made for display and door prize purposes.  I just took delivery of my Petite Purse die, from the Summer Smooches collection, and I had so much fun playing with it yesterday.  I will use these for displaying the 3D capabilities of the Big Shot.

I got the idea of the backpack from Mary Fish at Stampin' Pretty.  I think it's a great way to add a masculine touch to the container!  The directions are on the link.  I just changed the colours to Soft Suede and Always Artichoke, with splashes of Real Red.

For the other two purses, I used DSP, but found that you don't want too much pressure on them as they go through the Big Shot, because the scored lines have a tendency to cut through.  I had a shim, but really should have taken it out.  I love the look of the Pretty in Pink Satin Pleated ribbon on the middle purse, and I echoed the butterfly on the Everyday Enchantment brad using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.

The second thing that I wanted to share was a card holder that I'm giving away as one of the fair's  door prizes, to hold three hand-crafted cards and a gift certificate.  I got the direction for this right from the Stampin' Up website.

This holder made use of the new Adorning Accents Edgelits.  Don't they make an elegant finish on the flap?  I used Soft Suede with accents of Daffodil Delight.  The scoring was done using another so helpful and versatile resource- the Simply Scored tool!  I have to say that I haven't regretted buying the Big Shot and the Simply Scored tool for a moment - I have used them so much.

The stamped image on the front is from the Creative Elements stamp set, which I am constantly going to for the kind of images I like to use.  I inked it up using a Soft Suede and a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write marker.  I closed the flap using some Velcro I had in my sewing kit, but had a hard time finding the adhesive that would be stronger than the cling of the Velcro, so one side or the other wouldn't pull away from the cardstock.  I ended up using Glue Dots, but trimming some of the little hooks on the Velcro, so they wouldn't cling as tightly.

Here's one last view:

Must get going now, but be sure to come visit me at Our Lady of Lourdes school tomorrow for the Spring Fling Craft Fair from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.  Maybe you'll win my door prize!  Hoping to see you there.
