Gold Soiree Delicate for As You See It Challenges

It's Friday (as if you didn't know) and welcome again to another installment of As You See It Challenges! This week I found it a bit challenging, but after all, what's a challenge for? It was the symmetry of the sketch that gave me a problem, but when I found this lovely background DSP from the Gold Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper, I was inspired to slog on and come up with something worthy of it's beauty.

Here's the sketch:

  • Isn't that colour scheme from the DSP the epitome of springtime? I love the Pear Pizzazz, Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe together with the gold foil! We have had just the loveliest early spring here and I can't believe that all the blossoms are out and the grass needs cutting!
  • To soften the center squares I rounded one outside corner each. Another time, I might have tried to round just two opposite corners. I also placed a Tea Lace Doily behind them all to add to the delicate look of that paper, and to echo the element in the DSP on the bottom right, also from Gold Soiree. The square on the bottom right is popped up on Dimensionals again to offset the symmetry of the design and the top right and bottom left squares are smaller than the other two, for the same reason.
  • The Gold Foil Sheet in the upper right was embossed with the Spring Flowers Embossing Folder. I used more of the gold foil on the banner on the bottom right. Sweet Sadie Washi Tape at the bottom of the upper left square adds a touch of Pistachio Pudding echoing the Pistachio Pudding flowers you can see in the background panel.
  • The sentiment is from Wetlands and fits just perfectly in the ticket from the Ticket Duo Punch, which in turn, is just the right size for the square. The butterfly, if you look closely, is actually double, with one the same size punched out from a Gold Foil Sheet with the Bitty Butterfly Punch. The butterfly stamp is from Papillon Potpourri.

Vendor Fair Tomorrow and Blog Contest

I am excited to be a vendor at ...

...tomorrow!  I've been preparing for a while now.  I will have some retired rubber for sale as well as some cards  and some Try It Kits for My Paper Pumpkin.  I am super happy to be going back to Our Lady of Lourdes Spring Fling because it is really where I got my start as a Stampin' Up Demonstrator.

Yes, around a year ago, I had just signed up as a demo and, wet behind my ears, I was asked if I wanted to do this craft fair in place of my up line because she was too busy!  I had no clue what I was doing and I needed all her display items because I had none of my own, but the up shot was that I met some of my best customers at that fair and it was the start of my Stampin' Up career!  Fond memories!

Here are some of the things I've been working on:

Aren't these adorable?  I made a visit to the Bulk Barn for their great gourmet jelly beans and then got to work filling Stampin' Up's 1" x 8" cellophane bags (which have a great self-stick closure at the top) and creating the cute tags for them.  I used the Owl Builder Punch (SO versatile) to make the chicks along with the Boho Blossoms punch for their little top-knot!

The Elegant Butterfly Punch and the Bitty Butterfly punch created the three layer butterfly tags, and I used the new Pinwheel Sizzlits S Die to make the pinwheel toppers.  Where you see DSP there, it is from the Sunshine and Sprinkles Series.

Does anyone recognize the ribbon?  I'm batting 1000 this week with retired product, but I thought the craft fair was a good place to use up a some stuff I still had hanging around!  Leave me a comment with your name and email info if you recognize the ribbon and I will enter your name in the draw to win a little treat from Stampin' Up!

My other project is a fund raiser to benefit Breast Cancer Research.  I got the design from a Pin on Pinterest, created by Amanda Frankel.

Half of all the proceeds from the sale of these cards, I will donate to the BC Cancer Foundation!  And here's another little contest for you.  How did I get those bras made since I'm pretty sure Stampin' Up doesn't have a bra punch.  Yet it is made with a Stampin' Up punch.  Leave me a comment with the right answer and your  email info and you will have your name entered in the draw for a little treat.

And if you live in my area, come and see me on Saturday, April 6 from 10 am to 2 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes school gym on Hebert Road, and pick up some of my goodies!  I hope to see you there.

More Craft Fair Stuff

I was a busy bee yesterday, preparing for the craft fair tomorrow.  I wanted to share a couple of things I made for display and door prize purposes.  I just took delivery of my Petite Purse die, from the Summer Smooches collection, and I had so much fun playing with it yesterday.  I will use these for displaying the 3D capabilities of the Big Shot.

I got the idea of the backpack from Mary Fish at Stampin' Pretty.  I think it's a great way to add a masculine touch to the container!  The directions are on the link.  I just changed the colours to Soft Suede and Always Artichoke, with splashes of Real Red.

For the other two purses, I used DSP, but found that you don't want too much pressure on them as they go through the Big Shot, because the scored lines have a tendency to cut through.  I had a shim, but really should have taken it out.  I love the look of the Pretty in Pink Satin Pleated ribbon on the middle purse, and I echoed the butterfly on the Everyday Enchantment brad using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.

The second thing that I wanted to share was a card holder that I'm giving away as one of the fair's  door prizes, to hold three hand-crafted cards and a gift certificate.  I got the direction for this right from the Stampin' Up website.

This holder made use of the new Adorning Accents Edgelits.  Don't they make an elegant finish on the flap?  I used Soft Suede with accents of Daffodil Delight.  The scoring was done using another so helpful and versatile resource- the Simply Scored tool!  I have to say that I haven't regretted buying the Big Shot and the Simply Scored tool for a moment - I have used them so much.

The stamped image on the front is from the Creative Elements stamp set, which I am constantly going to for the kind of images I like to use.  I inked it up using a Soft Suede and a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write marker.  I closed the flap using some Velcro I had in my sewing kit, but had a hard time finding the adhesive that would be stronger than the cling of the Velcro, so one side or the other wouldn't pull away from the cardstock.  I ended up using Glue Dots, but trimming some of the little hooks on the Velcro, so they wouldn't cling as tightly.

Here's one last view:

Must get going now, but be sure to come visit me at Our Lady of Lourdes school tomorrow for the Spring Fling Craft Fair from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.  Maybe you'll win my door prize!  Hoping to see you there.
