Suite Sayings for As You See It Challenges

Hey! The weekend is upon us! Joy! Just a minute...what do I care? I'm retired and I work for myself now! I can weekend anytime I want! Friday is the day that I post my Design Team project for As You See It Challenges each week, and this week it's a sketch challenge from Amanda:

So cute! But when you have a very specific sketch, the challenge is to make it your own unique design. I used some paper, an embossing folder, some vellum and the Suite Sayings stamp set.

• I wanted to use this opportunity to show you the power of layering. My first version of this card was...meh! As I looked at it, I realized what was wrong:

• It was missing a layer behind the center panel. I realized that if I just added a thin border of Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper, it would make all the difference in definition. I think you can see by the before and after photos the huge difference a little bit of layering can make.
• I used the Happy Heart Embossing folder to add some texture to the center panel. And it just so happens that the heart punch from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack is an exact match for the hearts in the embossing folder so I added 3 Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper hearts to the front panel.
• The Botanical Gardens Designer vellum, stamped with a sentiment from Suite Sayings stamp set, posed a problem. I needed to adhere it to the card, but there was nowhere to hide a bit of glue, or a glue dot or a dimensional behind. This is where the Fine Tip Glue Pen came in mighty handy! I was able to add a bead of glue so thin that it only covered the lettering on the sentiment. When I glued it to the panel you could not see it a bit! The Botanical Gardens Designer Vellum Stack is something you can earn when you spend $60 or more during Sale-A-Bration, running until March 31, 2016.
• Notice that the sketch has a  bow made of sequin trim. I had to ask myself, "Can you actually do that?" So, just to find out the answer to that question, I made a bow from Blushing Bride Sequin Trim. I didn't actually tie it but used Glue Dots to create it and also add some Venetian crochet trim to the back.

So, I hope your boss lets you off to enjoy the weekend. Mine is a bit of a slave-driver, but usually lets me take the time I want, if I get my work all done. (lol - see the top paragraph.)

Delicate Ornament Thinlit Dies and the Precision Base Plate

Two of the new products from the Holiday Catalogue, (which just went live yesterday),that I have not had the opportunity to use yet, are the Delicate Ornament Thinlit Dies and the Precision Base Plate for the Big Shot. When I was designing one of my cards for my Technique Night classes, I decided to give it a go. I found a design on Pinterest that I liked and I decided to adapt it to Stampin' Up! products and I love the result: a shaker card!

• I used the Precision Base Plate to die cut the shape of the ornament from the Always Artichoke card front, at the same time as cutting the shape out of a 3 1/2" x 3 3/4" piece of fun foam. This created an embossed frame line around the ornament shape.
• I didn't really see the genius of the Precision Base Plate until I die cut the ornament itself out of a piece of Gold Foil. Wow! One pass through the Big Shot and it was perfectly cut and it was an easy matter to use dryer sheets to remove all the little bits from the die and the shape. I also used it to die cut the sentiment from the gold foil with equally good results.
• I added some adhesive on the back of the front panel all around the ornament-shaped hole and around the edges as well, and adhered a piece of Window Sheet to cover the hole. I then added more adhesive in the same places and added the fun foam piece, making sure that foam was back a little ways from the margin of the hole. The foam stretches to make that easier.

• I added lots of sequins, some from the Gold Sequin Trim and others from some that I had left over from last year's Holiday Catalogue, with snowflake shapes and silver sequins. I then removed the backing from the fun foam (which has adhesive on one side) and attached a piece of Whisper White cardstock just slightly smaller than the card front. (3 3/4" x 5").
• Then I just had to adhere the shaker card front to the card base. I added the die cut ornament and the sentiment using the new Fine Tip Glue Pen. I found that it takes a while for this adhesive to set up, so just put a Clear Mount block on top of it to hold it down and leave it for 5 minutes and it will be great. Don't use too much glue either, as I have found that it is hard to remove excess with the Adhesive Remover.
• A bit of Gold 1/8" ribbon on the top and in a bow and the card is finished.                                             (No stamps were used or harmed in the making of this card!)

Since I have sequins, ribbons and a slight bit of embossing on this card, I am entering it in The Paper Players Tic Tac Toe challenge this week, going for the diagonal line.
