Easter Cards for Grandkids - On the Fly

easter cards for grandkids on the fly 1

Tuesday was a bit hectic! I needed to finish the birthday card for my husband's birthday the next day, but it was time to mail out the Easter treats for my 6 grandchildren as well. I love how my husband put it: "When you're finished my birthday card, just whip up six cards for the grandkids so we can get their treats mailed out!" Right! How long has he been living with me and my Stampin' Up! business? Long enough to know that you don't just "whip up" six cards.

Well, that's until the Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper, which I just found out has been completely sold out! And now I guess I know why! Not only does it have beautiful butterfly images that coordinate with the composite butterfly die, but it also has amazing background papers as well, and in beautiful bright spring colours.

And when I teamed that up with some left over Paper Pumpkin embellishments and a couple of card bases, it turns out that I could just "whip up" 6 Easter cards for the grandkids! Take a closer look at the samples that I made 2 each of:

  • I have four grandsons and two granddaughters, so the card in the front was the one I used for the girls. The card base is a left over one from an old Paper Pumpkin kit. Don't ask me which one. On it I added the background from the flip side of the large butterfly side, the one where I die cut the butterflies that coordinate with the composite butterflies die. I just trimmed it down to 3 3/4" x 5".
  • The back two cards are for the boys. I made 2 each of those. The background papers you see are all from the Butterfly Bijou DSP.
  • The sentiments are on labels that I found in more old Paper Pumpkin Kits, so no die cutting needed.
  • Let's look at each design separately:
petal pink girls' card

  • I don't think the card base is Petal Pink, I think it might be the old In Colour, Grapefruit Grove, but I love how it looks anyway.
  • The flowers and leaves are stick ons from an old Paper Pumpkin Kit as well.
  • The sentiment label is also from a Paper Pumpkin Kit, but the sentiment is from the Timeless Tulips set.
bermuda bay boys card

  • The background paper is from Butterfly Bijou and the strip at the bottom is its flip side.
  • The flower embellishments are stick ons from that past Paper Pumpkin kit and the label is as well.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Bermuda Bay and is from the Timeless Tulips set.
mint macaron boys card

  • The background paper here again is from the Butterfly Bijou and the strip at the bottom is its flip side again.
  • The flower embellishments and label are, again, from old Paper Pumpkin kits.
  • Same ink and sentiment here as on the other boys' card.
Although I didn't photograph the insides, I used the A Grand Kid stamp set for sentiments before writing in them and mailing them off! Mission completed!

Nine Lives & Miscellaneous Valentines for Grandkids

I was busy making Valentine cards for all my grandkids over the weekend. My first step was to find out what kind of images they would enjoy. For three of them, it was kitties, so that was a great excuse to ink up one of my Occasions sets that I haven't used until now, Nine Lives! Two of the kids who wanted cats are my oldest daughter's children, Wyatt and Pippa.

These are fairly recent pictures of Wyatt, 5, and Pippa, 2! They are lively, wonderful children and we loved being able to take care of them for a week at the end of October. Both of them love to sing and hike. Wyatt lives to see his friends at school and play with them. Pippa is small but fierce and fearless, even though she can't be without Deedee,  her much loved mini Hudson Bay blanket!

The next two Valentines feature an owl, a perennial favourite of Jack, the youngest son of my youngest daughter and an orange tabby cat from the Nine Lives stamp set that looks a little like one of Cedar's pet cats, Dandelion. Cedar is my middle daughter's youngest. Jack just turned 4 and Cedar will be 5 in May.

Besides owls, Jack loves to make everyone laugh and he loves music a lot! Cedar loves Disney characters and her pets, and being a fierce warrior princess like Merida!

The last two are for my oldest grandsons, Kesten and Parker! Kesten likes kangaroos and giraffes so I used the Animal Outing stamp set for his card while Parker is really into Reptiles and I had another opportunity to use the stamp set from January's Paper Pumpkin kit that had a chameleon stamp in it.
Kesten is my middle daughter's oldest son, while Parker is my first grandchild and my youngest daughter's oldest son.

Kesten has always been incredibly creative with Lego, and also loves outdoor sports and nature! Parker loves to learn everything he can about a topic and then he moves on to a new passion. Both boys have great imaginations. Kesten's is shown in his fantastical Lego creations, while Parker comes up with great fantasy games for himself and his brother and friends to play! (And his grandparents when they come to visit!)

They are a pretty sweet bunch of kids and I have to say that I'm suffering from withdrawal right now, and living for the day when my hubby, Ken, finishes working at the end of March so that we will be able to go for trips to visit them all!

I used the Gingham Gala  6" x 6" Designer Series Paper for all of the cards except for Kesten's and for a more jungle look for his, I used the Tropical Escape 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper. (I know, I know, neither giraffes nor kangaroos live in jungles, nor do they live on the same continent, but think of their habitat as a tropical zoo for the purposes of this card!!)

I wanted to mention how much fun it is to combine 2 or 3 of the cat images from the Nine Lives stamp set to create tabby cats or in one case, a calico cat! I used the Stamparatus to make the process much easier.

I used 2 different Happy Valentine's Day sentiments, one from the Forever Lovely stamp set and one from the January's Paper Pumpkin stamp set. I thought you would get a kick out of the insides of the last two cards I showed you - the kangaroo card and the chameleon card:

Basically all the cards have a similar inside design, with the leftover strip of Gingham Gala paper, from the front panel and an inside sentiment double mounted on top of it. The cat cards all say, You're the Cat's Meow, a sentiment from the Nine Lives stamp set, and I used the Pick a Pennant alphabet to create a sentiment - You're a Hoot! - for the Owl Card.

Hope you enjoyed a little grandchild update!
