Talk About Opposites!!! for The Paper Players

Yesterday, I started a grungy, one layer card and ended up with the total opposite - a classy, many layered card!! I set out to complete a project for The Paper Player's 200th Challenge! Because it's a Celebration Challenge, each Design Team Member has chosen her favourite Challenge from the past 200 and to enter we just need to pick the one we like the best out of the Design Team choices.

Well, I wanted to use my Stampin' Blendabilities markers but I didn't know if it would be rightfully called water colouring (for Jaydee's challenge) because they are alcohol based markers.

So then I thought I could do a One Layer Card (for Ann's challenge).  I got out my Giggle Greetings and decided to colour in one of those images.

The small image was okay at the bottom right but the rest of the card looked so empty!  I found a sentiment I could use, but the card still looked wrong, so I added some ink splotches from Gorgeous Grunge, and that seemed too much to me.  Here's how that one looked:

                                                                       Not lovin' it!

I decided to give up on that one (after colouring the bowl of cherries three times) and went to another challenge from the DT.  The one I chose was Anne Marie's:

I figured, if I did a sketch challenge, that I could use the Stampin' Blendabilities all I wanted!  Prepare yourself for the exact opposite of the last card:

  • This is a card of formal richness instead of informal grunge and humour.  But I'm happy with how it turned out and I got to use a whole raft of new products.
  • Check out the Design Series Paper with the gold lace pattern.  It's perfect for this card and its part of the Gold Soiree collection Specialty DSP.  All the gold designs have a metallic sheen to them. So pretty!
  • The stamp set is the Hostess Set, Bloom with Hope. The images are all beautiful floral designs just perfect for Blendabilities!  I loved colouring in this large flower with the Rich Razzleberry set and the Daffodil Delight set.
  • The Circle Framelits die cut the flower and it's matte, which is from Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  The Floral Frames Framelits were used to die cut the floral shape on the Blackberry Bliss panel behind, instead of a rectangle in the sketch.
  • I should mention that I mounted the DSP on the same size cardstock to give it some strength in order to support the heavy Gold Satin Ribbon that is wrapped around it.  This is a new type of ribbon in the new 2014/15 Annual Catalogue and it is as beautiful as satin and it has a heavier weight to it than the stitched satin ribbon or the seam binding ribbons.  Look at the sheen, though! Gorgeous!
Anyway, I had my "fun" today, although there was a fair amount of frustration thrown in.  I was finally able to produce something challenge-worthy!  I guess the motto would be, "If at first you don't succeed, try something completely different!"

Have you ever had to give up on one project and start something completely different?  Tell me about it in the comments below!  I'd love to hear from you!

Round or Square? Mojo Time Again!

I love MOJO Monday Challenges, but once a month they give me a choice I don't know what to do with!

Round or Square Week?!   Seriously??? How about neither? I mean, I've always been kind of a square peg trying to fit into a round hole but I don't need to be reminded of it monthly!!

And what do you do with round or square cards? There's the envelope problem of course.  I know, I know, with our Simply Scored Tool, I could make my own, but that takes more time!

There is something coming soon from Stampin' Up that will make envelope crafting much easier, but I have to wait for awhile to show you what it is!  Are you curious?  Curious like a cat?  Good!

Here's this week's Mojo Monday Challenge #304:

After some debate, I finally settled on Round!  It's just easier!  Here it is:

I will be using it for my Technique Night classes next week.

  •  My ladies all wanted to learn how to do rolled flowers.  They are really easy to do. I will get my video camera rolling a do a tutorial after technique night is over, but basically you just punch out a scallop circle, spiral cut it and roll from the outside to the inside, using the last bit of the spiral to hold the rest with a glue dot.

Your cut doesn't need to be perfectly even because it will give your flower more interesting variation.

  • I'm using a new stamp set called Kind and Cozy, which was made to coordinate with Gingham Garden Design Series Paper (DSP).  See the gingham around the edge of the circle and that little nosegay stamp which matches the flowers on the DSP?
  • The colour palette I'm using is Strawberry Slush, Island Indigo, Pear Pizzazz and Daffodil Delight.
  • I used the Circles Collection framelits to make the shaped card here.  I took one 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of Strawberry Slush cardstock and scored the long edge at 5 1/2".  I folded it and put the largest Circle framelit on it with one edge of the framelit overhanging the edge of the fold.  That gave me the shaped card base, but because the fold edge was flat instead of round, I cut out another full framelit piece and matched the two up and glued it on, so the scallops matched.
  • The Bird Builder punch created those Pear Pizzazz leaves.
  • I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the gingham ring and the flower bunch perfectly around my sentiment.
In other GREAT news, the Holiday Mini goes live tomorrow!  Have you got your orders ready?  I will have a link to the catalogue here on my blog and the phone lines will be open if you want anything!  I will put in an order on Friday!
