One Last Merry Moment

Today, I just felt like I wanted to use some of my favourite products from Stampin' Up!'s Christmas collection, both from the Annual Catalogue and the Holiday Catalogue. Since The Paper Players have a colour challenge going on this week, it made it easy for me to use whatever I wanted on this card.

I think my very favourite Designer Series Paper design is from the Merry Moments DSP collection. It's Cherry Cobbler with tiny gold polka dots, and to me it looks classy.

The Delicate Ornament Thinlits have been a wonderful addition to our Christmas selection. And now that we will be able to use the new Big Shot Die Brush*, coming in the new 2016 Occasions Catalogue, they are much easier to use! (No dryer sheets necessary)

*These products are found in the 2016 Occasions Catalogue and will be available to order on Jan. 5, 2016.

You simply roll the brush, which is mounted kind of like a brayer, over the back of the die and the bristles on the brush head push all the little bits out of the die cut and the die. It works on an accompanying foam pad because the give of the pad keeps the bristles from piercing the cardstock and allows the little pieces to fall free of the die and image.

The Noel die is from the Wonderful Wreath framelits from the Annual Catalogue. I tried the Die Brush on this but the die holds the letters too firmly for it to be really useful. It does, however, raise a portion of the cardstock from out of the die so that I could get a hold of it and gently remove it. I die cut it both in Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla and adhered them so that the vanilla image acted as a shadow for the Mossy Meadow word.

The top of the ornament was cut from a Gold Foil Sheet and let's all write to Stampin' Up! to tell them that we really want to keep the Gold and Silver Cording Trim, and any other colours they want to add to that. I really love how easy they are to work with and how elegant the curving trim looks on a project.

Oh, by the way, no stamps were inked in the making of this card!

Merry Moments Thank You for the Pals

It's time for some new Thank You cards for my customers, so I decided to pull out my Merry Moments Designer Series Paper, which is a festive series in the Annual Catalogue, but you can see that it is a little more versatile than just a Christmas set. I used the sketch for the Pals Paper Arts Challenge for this week for the layout.

I pulled images and a sentiment from various stamp sets as well as some lovely, glittery ribbon that I haven't yet used for these Quick and Easy thank you cards.

  • The colours here are the same as the palette for the Merry Moments DSP: Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Mossy Meadows, Whisper White, festive but fun for every day as well.
  • One Big Meaning stamp set provided the great script for the sentiments, stamped here in Cherry Cobbler ink. Work of Art stamp set gave me the watercolour brush stroke in the background, and Jolly Christmas provided the star images, which I've stamped here in Crushed Curry ink.
  • Notice the sparkly ribbon that you see at the top. This is a special set from the Holiday Catalogue called Gold & White 3/8" Glitter Ribbon - a little bling for your Christmas greeting cards.

Have a Jolly Versatile Christmas

I went to Costco today for the first time in a few months. I went right to the Christmas section because I hadn't seen it yet even though it had been out since August. I guess I needed a dose of Christmas cheer, since I am designing so many holiday cards right now, and I needed a little more seasonal excitement as I do them. You can always count on Costco to be as ready for the season as we papercrafters have to be! I designed this one for As You See It Challenge #107 and for my upcoming Christmas Stamper's Dozen class.

I'm quite taken by the deer image in Jolly Christmas! He is such a stately fellow and he looks so good when embossed! And I used some of my Merry Moments Designer Series Paper (DSP), which is a holiday set in the Annual Catalogue, not the Holiday one.

  • I really love these back to back designs - the plaid and the Cherry Cobbler pin dots. They are great patterns to match with the large designs of the plaid and the small pin dots on the other. And Cherry Cobbler will always be my favourite Christmas red anyway!
  • I die cut the hole in the Cherry Cobbler piece using the Circles Collection Framelit Dies, then matched it up with the edge of the plaid ( it is 1/2" narrower than the plaid but the same length) and marked some little pencil dots on four "sides" of the circle so I would know where to position my deer stamp.
  • The deer is stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed using Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder, set with the Heat Tool. Make sure to use the Embossing Buddy to rid your paper of static so that the powder won't cling where you don't want it.
  • The sentiment is from the Versatile Christmas stamp set, one you really need this year because it not only contains many Christmas greetings for the outside of the card, but also coordinating ones for your cards' insides. I inked it up with the Cherry Cobbler marker so I could just use the word Rejoicing instead of Rejoicing with you, because I wanted the greeting to be narrower so it wouldn't hide the deer.
  • Green striped ribbon added some much needed interest on the side and a few gold sequins helped out!
I hope my Canadian readers have a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend this weekend.

I'm off on a short trip this next week to the little town of Invermere in eastern BC where there is a hotsprings! Hopefully, lots of walks in the autumn countryside, and cozy evenings in the lodges with books and music and friends! I'm looking forward to it. I'll see you back on Monday with a Thanksgiving card!
