60th Birthday with Number of Years

A very special person in my life is turning 60 this weekend. My middle sister hits the big one and I wanted to make a special card for her. Heck, I even made a BIG card - a 5" x 7" one, and the Large Number Framelits don't look out of place on a card that size do they? I learned a new trick to use with the glimmer paper I used and I'll reveal that later in this post!

This is my lovely sister, Sandi, here with her husband, John. They have a beautiful piece of property and a farm house in Clearwater,

And here are the three sisters, with Sandi in the middle!

  • Very Vanilla and Gold have a very classic, elegant look perfect for the more formal cards you might make. This card includes Gold Foil Sheets,  Gold Stampin' Embossing Powder, and Gold Glimmer Paper for a varied effect.
  • The sentiments are all from the Number of Years stamp set. I love how the 'Look Who's Turning' is curved already. It's helpful to find the center of the curve and make sure that's at the center of the top. I found that the apostrophe was close to the center.
  • When die cutting glimmer paper, it sometimes helps to peel off the back layer of the glimmer paper before die cutting to help the blades to cut cleanly through. It's also easier to glue with the back layer off. A Delicate White Doily becomes the background for the sixty.
  • I embossed the leaves and flowers below the numbers with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. I started with the leaf image, stamping it with Versa Mark Ink, sprinkling on some embossing powder and heat set it. I then added the flowers, filling in the gaps where I thought there should be blooms. All the images are from Number of Years stamp set.
  • The banner is from the Large Number Framelits dies. I die cut one in Gold Glimmer paper to serve as a kind of shadow background.

This was for my grandson, Kesten's fourth birthday last week! He loves Finding Nemo so I thought our sea turtle from From Land to Sea would make a passable Crush!

  • You can see that I used the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits for the water, but can you guess what I used for the waving sea weeds? Let me know in the comments below!
  • The top sentiment was computer generated! The bottom one was from Number of Years stamp set.
  • Colours used are Pacific Point, Mint Macaron, Whisper White and a touch of Chocolate Chip for Crush's shell!

Number of Years and Zoo Babies for Global Design Project

My little granddaughter, Cedar, turns two in a week or so! She is my only granddaughter so far, and she has to be pretty feisty to hold her own against all those boys in the family, but she is well up to that task.
She's talking a lot now, and has her own run bike with a helmet and everything, loves to dress up and takes care of all her "babies"!  I'm Nama and Ken is Namps to her. Pink and purple are her favourite colours and she likes ponies! With that in mind, I used the Global Design Project Challenge sketch to create this zebra card for her using the Number of Years stamp set and the retiring Zoo Babies.

I tried some different versions of this card, including one using Playful Pals stamp set to try to make a pony, but I wasn't happy with the result.

But the ears didn't quite look right and even though I stamped the Wisteria Wonder three time, it still didn't hide the Blushing Bride underneath it. And then, it just wasn't cute enough, so I got out my zebra from Zoo Babies stamp set and went in a different direction with the card.

  • I tried to get the watercolour wash behind the 2 in a couple of ways. I tried using a clear block with the ink directly on them, spritzed with a bit of water. I liked how it turned out, except that I was working with Whisper White cardstock, which was warping a bit with the water, and the water drop image didn't work as well with it. For the effect in this photo, I used one of the Timeless Texture images and I love the way it looks.
  • I used the Large Number Framelits to die cut the 2 from Wisteria Wonder cardstock. the Number of Years stamp set created the little banner "Look Who's Turning". and I stamped a zebra each in Wisteria Wonder and Blushing Bride ink and fussy cut them out.
  • I added the number 2 and the zebras using Stampin' Dimensionals. The zebras are in lieu of ponies, because I couldn't get a stamped pony to the place where I liked it.

I did my pre-order today from the new 2016 - 17 Annual Catalogue and I'm eagerly waiting now for the UPS Man to deliver to my order in a week's time. Then I'll share it with you! I can't wait to start using all the amazing products in it!

If you want to see some more sneak peaks all you have to do is google pinterest and search for Stampin' Up! 2016 - 17 Annual Catalogue.
