And we continue with the saga of the milestone birthday parties. This card was for a dear friend who turned 70 this past Sunday. As I was trying to come up with ideas for her card, I browsed through some Facebook photos I had of her and I noticed that she loved to wear shades of red and coral and often in rich floral designs. Right away, I thought of the Cake Soiree stamp set and decided that I was going to use that set with some Silver embossing and try out Poppy Parade with Calypso Coral at the same time!
- Right away, I knew I'd found a palette that I would love and use many times: Poppy Parade, Calypso Coral and Silver, with a little Granny Apple Green thrown in for good measure.
- I started by heat embossing the cake and the gift images from Cake Soiree and some of the floral images on separate pieces of Whisper White cardstock. Then I wanted to add some background colour to the embossed images, but since it is a red rubber stamp set, it is quite difficult to do the 2 step stamping, even using the Stamparatus, because you can't easily line up the stamp with the image. I solved the problem this way: I embossed the images using Versamark ink, Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder and the Heat Tool, then die cut the images with the coordinating Sweet Cake Framelits. I did not discard the cardstock that the images were cut from, however. I used it as a template.
- I placed the cardstock with the empty space from where the image had been die cut on the base of my Stamparatus and used the magnets to secure it.I then placed the stamp with the solid background colour into the hole left by the die cut, lining it up exactly, and closed one of the flaps on the Stamparatus to pick the stamp up. Then I replaced the die cut image back in the hole, again lined up exactly, inked up the stamp and stamped. I got as close to a perfect alignment as you will ever get. If that is all clear as mud, I will try to do a quick video tutorial on it in a week.
- For the floral designs on the cake and the gift, I used a Blender Pen and the ink from the stamp pads as I don't yet have my new colour Stampin' Write Markers.They are on their way in my next delivery.
- I mounted a piece of Silver Foil Sheet on some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet and die cut the ornate cake stand and the numbers 7 and 0. The Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet makes it so easy to adhere the intricate die cuts without untidy glue that really messes up the foil sheets. Just peel of the backing and stick!
