Fancy Frost Fresh Fruit for The Paper Players

Woohoo! It's Friday! What a busy week it's been, and when I say busy, I mean busy in the Craft Cave creating! I was trying to get ahead a little and I don't know if I accomplished that, but over the last week I've designed quite a few cards...and this was the last of them. I wanted to enter The Paper Player's Challenge this week:

It was supposed to be a clean and simple card, which, of course, I did not quite achieve. But we were to also include fall taste treats such as apples and pumpkins on our card. What sprang to my mind was my mom so many years ago, all through the summer and into the early fall, busy in the kitchen canning everything she could get her hands on. And we looked forward to eating all that wonderful canned produce every winter. I'm sure it got us through a few lean years! She worked so hard on it. And I know that all her love went into every Mason jar of peaches, pears and cherries that she put up.

I wanted my card to reflect that love, and I'm so glad that we have the Jar of Love stamp set and Everyday Jars Framelits with which I could recreate the scene.

I don't want to reveal any more of the process here as this card will be my free photo tutorial for my October newsletter. If you are on the email list to receive my free monthly newsletter, you will also receive the tutorial, which is a step-by-step photo tutorial including a list of supplies needed and all measurements. Vintage Leaves for The Paper Players' Colour Challenge

The Paper Players have a colour challenge this week that I found a little odd. There was a pastel yellow, a bright orange and a dark blue-green. Since blue and orange are opposite each other on the colour wheel, they are complimentary colours. The funny thing is that I don't find complimentary colours very complimentary! I usually avoid them like the plague, so I wasn't sure how I was going to use this combination. I decided that leaves would work and got out my Vintage Leaves stamp set.

I started by looking for some Designer Series Paper that had Tangelo Twist in it and I found a plaid design I liked with Black and Vanilla as neutrals in the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper. I decided to use Black as my main neutral and started out with layers of Basic Black, Lost Lagoon and the designer paper. Here's my design:

This afternoon we will be heading up north to visit with my daughter and her family! She has advised us to bring warm clothes, so we're anticipating cooler weather there. I will update you as the week goes on, but right now I can hardly wait to get there and snuggle with Kesten and Cedar and visit with Kristen and David. Grandma's bringing some treats, too!

Happy Scenes with Hearth & Home Thinlits

Ever since I laid eyes on the new Holiday Catalogue, I've been dying to play with this bundle - Happy Scenes and the Hearth & Home Thinlit dies! I'm finally getting the chance today and my first project turned out just the way I imagined it would! First of all, this set means these dies and stamps are good for many seasons, not just fall and winter. Just think of all the scenes you could create through the window! Sheltering Tree would look awesome! Lovely as a Tree! Wonderland! White Christmas! Talented Trio! Even No Bones About It with the dinosaurs, if you were being funny! And that just names a few! I intend to have no end of fun with these thinlits and I hope you will join me!

The Happy Scenes bundle (where you buy two or more coordinating products together and save 15%) is one of seventeen in the Holiday Catalogue!! When I am finished looking at the card, I will list them all for you.

  • The Tangerine Tango card base and the Early Espresso backing work with the woodgrained house walls to give a log cabin feel.  I actually first embossed the Tip Top Taupe cardstock with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder and then embossed it a second time with the Brick Wall Embossing folder to get the log look here. You have to do it in that order. If you emboss first with the Brick Wall , when you re-emboss with the Woodgrain  folder, all the bricks get lost in the wood grain.
  • I used one of the images from Happy Scenes. Using the Basic Black Archival ink, I stamped it on Whisper White and then water coloured the sky and the ground with Aqua Painters using a variety of colours: Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry and Tip Top Taupe. The leaves and pumpkins I coloured with Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie and Tangelo Twist Stampin' Write Markers.
  • The sentiment, from the same stamp set is embossed in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder on the separate window box portion of the Hearth & Home Thinlits. One of the Into the Woods Elements embellishes it with some Gold 1/8" Ribbon.
We're making this card at my Technique Night classes tonight and tomorrrow.

Now here are those bundles I was telling you about:
