Grateful Bunch for Global Design Project

Wow! I was on the look-out for a new design challenge blog and I hit the jackpot! The Global Design Project has a group of my favourite designers as the Design Team and they had one of my favourite colour palettes as their challenge this week!

I just think those colours make a card that is sweet and fresh and perfect for spring and summer, so I decided to make a thank you card for the challenge. I've been meaning to ink up the Grateful Bunch stamp set, and I could just picture the images in these colours.

For the layout, I used the sketch from this week's Mojo Monday:

Mix them all together and give a tap of the magic wand, "Abracadabra!" and I have a card to share with you:

  • I just love the winsome images in this Grateful Bunch stamp set! The blossom was really easy to colour up. I stamped it in Basic Gray Archival ink and then used a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write Marker to draw over the hatch lines on the image with a little extra around the edges of the petals! Easy peasy!
  • The lace trim image is so much fun to stamp and the dotted sprig of leaves makes a great background for the sentiment. And the little butterfly is so much fun, I made two, both fussy cut because the image doesn't really coordinate with the Bitty Butterfly Punch.
  • The background DSP is from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack. I had four designs to choose from and this worked the best with my stamped images.
  • I just realized the other day that I had not yet purchased the Natural Chevron Ribbon in Smoky Slate and this seemed like the perfect occasion. The jury is still out, but it works with this colour scheme.
Well, that's all for today. I'll be back tomorrow with a new As You See It Challenge sample for you.

Honeycomb Background Design

I have been working on more samples for my Technique Nights this week, with the theme of watercolour background techniques. One of my favourite techniques is using embossing folders as stamps. Randomly, I chose the Honeycomb Embossing Folder, thinking it would make an interesting design on the paper when I added ink to it. I wanted a bit of a grunge look for this sample, so I went for inspiration, to someone who is a master of that technique, Stampin' Up!'s Artisan Award winner, Krista Frattin at Stampin' Dolce. While my background is quite different from hers, I got many ideas about the design elements from her great card.

  • I don't use staples very often, but after using them on this project, with the Handheld Stapler, I have to ask myself why? They make adhering elements so easy and no need to try to hide adhesive behind vellum cardstock, just staple the vellum right on, front and center, nothing to hide! And it fits perfectly with that grunge look.
  • I used my Gold Wink of Stella for the first time. It fit with the warm colour scheme I have going here: Calypso Coral, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry and Daffodil Delight, with a little Blushing Bride and Basic Black thrown in for good measure! I not only added the Gold Wink of Stella to the butterfly wings (die cut with the Butterflies Thinlits), but I also splattered it on the paper by tapping it against my hand over top of the background.
  • My sentiment, from Butterfly Basics stamp set is stamped on vellum with StazOn ink, which is the ink you need for that job so that it doesn't rub off the vellum afterwards. The vellum is cut using the Banner Tripe Punch.
  • To learn this background technique, if you are in this area, sign up for my Technique Night Classes this week, tonight and tomorrow night. Let me know if you are coming so I can have a packet prepared for you.

Ink Smooshing and By the Tide

As nice as it is to get February the dreary over for another year, and even though I got 1 more day than I usually do in February, it seemed like it was a big rush getting my newsletter done in time. It feels like there has been a lot going on lately. But I did get it finished and sent out there in cyber space! Phew! Each newsletter, my contacts get a free tutorial of a new project. The tutorial is a step-by step photo how-to which includes a supplies list and measurements. I wanted to share the project with you today:

  • This card features the ink smooshing technique and uses By The Tide and Picture Perfect stamp sets. I was just thinking the other day that I hadn' used my By The Tide set in a long time, and I love the way Picture Perfect coordinates with it.
If you would like to learn how to do ink smooshing and make this great card, all you have to do is sign up to receive my newsletter once a month, with the understanding that you can cancel anytime.
