Beautiful Boughs and Puff Paint Wreath

I had imagined a wreath made with the Beautiful Boughs dies and the Snowfall Accents Puff Paint quite some time ago, but just recently was able to find the time to put one together. It wasn't difficult to do, just a bit tedious with repetitive steps to get enough foliage to make the wreath bushy enough. Even at that, there are still a few spots that I feel could use some more pine boughs.

  • I created a base for my wreath using two sizes of paper plates and tracing their circumferences on a piece of the stiff cardboard that comes in a package of Foil Sheets. The smaller plate is centered in the circumference of the larger one before tracing it. Then they are cut out with sturdy scissors.
  • The wreath shape is traced on an piece of Shaded Spruce 12" x 12" cardstock and it is hand trimmed with scissors and glued onto the cardboard wreath.
  • I die cut 12 of the large boughs and 12 of the medium sized boughs in Shaded Spruce cardstock and I die cut 6 large and 6 medium in Granny Apple Green as well.
  • I die cut 5 solid pine cones in Crumb Cake and 5 overlay layers in Early Espresso. I glued the overlays on the solid die cut using the Fine Tip Glue Pen and let them sit for awhile to set up.
  • Using the Snowfall Accents Puff Paint, I added it to all of the boughs except for 3 large and 3 medium Shaded Spruce boughs and heat set it with the Heat Tool causing it to puff up into 3D snow effects. I added it to the pinecones as well.
  • I added all the boughs to the wreath using glue dots, with the un-snowed boughs first at the bottom then the rest, alternating between the Shaded Spruce and the Granny Apple Green, medium and large.
  • I added the pine cones well distributed around the wreath. I made a double finger bow using the Real Red 1" Ruched Ribbon and added that, then made a loop of it to add to the top back as well for hanging the wreath.
I will be making a few more boughs to add to the sparse places, I think.

Stitched Stars for an Easy Rustic Look Christmas Card

I've been seeing some beautiful rustic-looking Christmas cards around the web and had that old yearning to create something rustic this afternoon, after we got home from another trip down to Vancouver, this time for some Stampin' Up! training on Saturday that was SO valuable!

So I got out my Crumb Cake and Real Red, my Burlap Ribbon, all rustic staples. I found some wood grain DSP from the Come To Gather Designer Series, and visualized how it all would look if I used the beautiful Stitched Stars die set! Here's how it all came together:

  • I just love all the options available with the Stitched Stars dies. You have the nested Stitched Stars themselves, you have the option of creating the open frame stars by taking two dies and nesting one inside the other and running them through your die-cutting machine, you have the ornate die cut stars, and flourishes, and finally you have that amazing flourish of many stars. It's a once in a lifetime set that works for many different seasons, not just for Christmas.
  • I paired it with it's coordinating stamp set, So Many Stars for the JOY sentiment.
  • The Sprig Punch added a little softness to the rustic look with some Whisper White and Sparkle Glimmer leaf sprigs under the burlap ribbon.
  • If I had time to add something more I would have added some small sequins or some metallic spatter to the card front I think, but it was a long day of travel, plus the change to standard time from daylight savings and I needed some more sleep!
I will have the newsletter ready in the next couple of days. The travel took away some working time, but that just gives you a little more time to subscribe if you haven't already.

Christmastime is Here for the November Newsletter Tutorial

It's November 1st! A remarkable day for 2 reasons: first, it's November already! And second, it's the day when you, as customers, can finally purchase and new Paper Trimmer and the new Christmastime is Here Suite.

And for my reviews on both you're going to want to see my free November Newsletter which will be coming out in the next few days. In fact, my free photo tutorial will feature the Christmastime is Here Suite. Each month, when I send out my free monthly newsletter, I try to include a photo tutorial for my readers featuring Stampin' Up! products. The tutorial included step-by-step instructions illustrated by photos and has a list of all products used and measurements. And, if you are from Canada, and don't have a regular SU Demonstrator, I would love to have you shop with me for any of those products that you need.

Here's a close up of the card featured in the tutorial this month:

  • The Designer Series Paper in the background is the Christmastime is Here Specialty DSP which is gold foiled on one side and patterned on the other.
  • The main image is also die cut with the Roses Dies which just happen to coordinate not only with the Christmas Rose stamp set, but also with some of the images on the DSP.
  • Look at that luscious gold ribbon on the front! I'll teach you how to tie a double finger bow.
  • The sentiment has a great font and the label die is also from the set.
  • Don't you love the Gold Glitter Enamel Dots that are part of it as well?
  • The Christmas Rose stamp set has a Cling stamp set that gives you an outline that you can colour in using many different methods, and it also has a set of photopolymer 2 step stamping pieces that you can use to fill in the outline, especially using a Stamparatus, although that's not strictly necessary.
