Family Joy for As You See It Challenges

Welcome to Friday, and our last As You See It Challenge before the New Year. This challenge goes until December 18th, and then we will be taking a break until January 3. This is Challenge #215 and it is a Fill In the Blank Challenge with a holiday theme:

This was an easy blank for me to fill in, because it is my family and my grandkids that give me so much joy at Christmas time and all year round, really! I wanted to make a card that reflected family gathered around, but we didn't really have a specific stamp for that, so, as usual, I improvised and combined what we do have.

Three sets came to mind for me: A Good Man, Beautiful You and Artfully Aware. One that I forgot that would have worked better, is Wonderful Moments. Combining them along with the tree from Rooted in Nature required a lot of masking and thinking about which images would be in the foreground and which would need to be stamped first and masked first. Here's how it turned out:

  • The scene is supposed to be the family gathering around the newly decorated Christmas tree, admiring it and revelling in their closeness to each other.
  • I have to say that the dancing lady is my youngest daughter, who is a dancer, and quite often breaks into impromptu dance at exciting moments!
  • The sentiments are from Itty Bitty Christmas and Frosted Foliage.
  • I stamped all the images, except for the tree, in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured them in with Stampin' Blends Markers.
  • The tree was stamped in Mossy Meadow and I added a Star Designer Element at the top and Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels for lights.
I did another version of this card, and I wonder which you like the best because I can't decide. It's the same, it just has a different sentiment - this one from the Toile Christmas stamp set:

For this one, I kind of felt that the sentiment banner was just a little too large and unwieldy for the scale of the images. What's your opinion? My hubby liked this one best.

Have a great weekend! I hope you can find some stamping time and enter our last challenge of 2019!

  1. These cards are wonderful, Heather. I agree, Family and Grandkids really make Christmas special. I like them both. I really like the swirly banner on the second one, but I also really like the sentiment on the first one. Too bad you couldn't put them together, that would be perfect, lol.
