Hi, everyone! I created this card for As You See It Challenge #332 which is a Sketch Challenge drawn up by our creative team member, Joanne! I knew I wanted to feature the beautiful suite Season of Elegance, so I made good use of the DSP, but now that it's finished, I think I want to change it's name to
Camo Christmas! Seriously! I did get carried away by the DSP, which is so elegant, but when you use too much of it, it ends up looking like camouflage fabric. I guess it would make a good card for hunters and military personnel. But it is not at all what I had envisioned!
Here's the Challenge Banner:
Besides the lovely Season of Elegance DSP, I was able to use the Painted Evergreen 3D Embossing Folder, the Peaceful Evergreens dies and the Peaceful Season Dies. And among the products of the suite, I was also able to fit in the Cherry Cobbler & Gold 1/4" Satin Ribbon as well as the Gold Textured Adhesive Backed Dots. Here's a closer look, and I hope it's not too camouflaged so you can still see it:
- On a card base of Pretty Peacock, I added a layer of Old Olive/Mossy Meadow Season of Elegance DSP. But first I embossed it with the Painted Trees 3D embossing folder and enhanced the trees with sponge daubers using the Craft Whisper White ink and some Mossy Meadow ink. I also added a 1" strip of the Pretty Peacock DSP pattern with a 6" strip of the Cherry Cobbler and Gold Satin Ribbon adhered down the middle and over the ends.
- I made an evergreen tree using the Peaceful Evergreen dies and different shades of green and gold. I slipped it underneath the horizontal band at the right side of the card and adhered it.
- For the long rectangle element, I die cut the word Christmas and the shadow for it using the Peaceful Season dies from the Cherry Cobbler DSP and some Gold Foil. These were added to the card front.
- Finally I added a label die cut from Old Olive cardstock using the Peaceful Season dies and embossed the sentiment Peace & Joy in gold on the label. This was added to the card front using dimensionals.
- The card was embellished using the Gold Textured Adhesive Backed Dots.

Oh, Heather! Ever since you described this as camo pattern, I just can't unsee it! I think you're being a bit hard on yourself but I will take on board that you suggest using it in smaller quantities. As mine only arrived a couple of days ago, I'll let you know how I get on with it! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jan! I know what you mean. It's completely spoiled the suite for me. I'm going to have to have a go at making another design, just to change my perspective!
