Stitched Stars Dies for As You See It Challenge #262

stitched stars 1

This time around the challenge at As You See It Challenges is a Fill In The Blank Challenge created by my Design Team member Joanne! If you've never done one of those before, the idea is to fill in the blank of the statement in the Challenge Banner with words of your choosing and then create a card based on those words.

Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #262

Now, I would complete the sentence as follows: The one thing that sums up Christmas for me is a SENSE OF WONDER. When I was a child, that wonder was in the magic of Christmas morning, with Santa's visit and the presents and the idea that magic was real. As an adult, the wonder was in the fact that the Son of God became a child on Earth for me. We often go for drives on Christmas Eve and the roads are usually quiet. Often you can see the stars. And the wonder of the night is driven home to me again each time.

challenge #262 2

  • I wanted to use the Stitched Stars dies for this one, especially the star swirl to exemplify the feeling of wonder I get on Christmas Eve, but I needed a good sentiment to go along with it. I found it in the For Unto Us stamp set.
  • I stamped the sentiment on the backside of a strip of the Peaceful Place Specialty DSP that I used for the main layer of my card. I tried embossing it with Silver Stampin' Emboss powder but it didn't show up enough, so I used Memento ink.
  • I used the edge of one of the Tasteful Labels dies to add some stitching to one end of the sentiment strip and I added some of the silver Metallic Mesh Ribbon behind it.
  • The Stitched Stars die cuts were cut from Silver Foil from the Silver Foil Specialty Pack in the Jul/Dec Mini Catalogue. I added some Adhesive sheet to the back of the foil before die cutting so the shapes could be added easily to the DSP by just peeling off the backing and sticking them down with the adhesive.
  • The final embellishment was some Rhinestones.

Pretty in Pink Poinsettia

pretty in pink poinsettia 1

I love Christmas cards in non-traditional colours! How about you? Today I'm going for pink, silver and Gray Granite with Sahara Sand. The pink is my favourite Petal Pink which goes so well with those neutrals, and I think the overall effect is quite elegant. I used the Poinsettia Dies, which bundle with the Poinsettia Petals stamp set, a gorgeous bundle which I think is one of the must haves of the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue, if you don't yet have it! Honestly, you can whip up a poinsettia flower in minutes and it looks amazing, even without any ink at all, with those poinsettia embossing plates that you use at the same time as you die cut the layer of petals. And you can die cut all three layers in the same turn of the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine.

Here are some instructions:

  • On a Sahara Sand base I mounted a Silver Foil layer and a piece of Peony Garden Designer Series Paper in a subtle Gray Granite design, on top of that.
  • The sentiment, from the For Unto Us stamp set, is stamped in Sahara Sand ink, on Whisper White cardstock, then die cut with a Stitched Rectangle Die and backed with Silver Foil, die cut using a scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly dies. Both are mounted flat using Stampin' Seal.
  • The poinsettia petals are die cut and embossed with the Poinsettia Dies from Petal Pink cardstock then shaped using a bone folder and layered using Glue Dots as the adhesive.
  • Silver Foil is die cut for the center of the flower and the sprigs of berries layered behind the flower with the Whisper White berries. These are all dies from the Poinsettia Dies set.
  • The sprigs of berries are added to the card front with strong adhesive such at Stampin' Seal+ placed behind where the flower will go and only a short length of the adhesive is needed to hold them.
Do you like traditionally coloured or non-traditionally coloured Christmas cards?

North Pole Wonder Dies for Christmas Stamper's Dozen

north pole wonder dies for christmas dozen 1

It's time for me to be doing a Christmas Stamper's Dozen, but, of course, it must be a virtual event, so I worked at designing simple but attractive Christmas cards, that didn't involve a ton of prep and basically only a sentiment stamped.

So I came up with this card for one of the four designs. It uses a colour scheme I really am attracted to: Real Red, Crumb Cake, Copper and Very Vanilla. It has a rustic feel to it.

I used the North Pole Wonder Dies for the reindeer and the Stitched So Sweetly Dies for the Copper Plaque behind him.

The strip of Designer Series Paper behind is from the Heartwarming Hugs DSP package, while the Copper plaque is cut from the Copper Brushed Metallic cardstock.

The sentiment is from the For Unto Us stamp set that is one of the options for the Stamper's Dozen Class that this card is a sample for. It's stamped on Very Vanilla in Real Red ink.

The pretty ribbon is the Real Red 3/8" Sheer Ribbon from the Poinsettia Place Suite in the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue. The embellishments are tiny pearls from the old style Pearl Basic Jewels that I've had forever and I coloured them with the Dark Real Red Stampin' Blends Marker.
