Guest Designer with Winter Woods

How was your Thanksgiving? I had a great visit with my youngest daughter, her hubby and my two young grandsons! One of the most special times I had was an opportunity to craft with my daughter. It doesn't happen very often and we both enjoyed the time to stamp and talk together. She loved the opportunity to design her own Christmas card and she gave me permission to share it on my blog today. She used two new bundles, the Winter Woods bundle and the Merry Christmas to All bundle.

Jaimie says she enjoys traditional Christmas colours and a rustic feel so included Cherry Cobbler, Mossy Meadow, Soft Sea Foam and Crumb Cake in her palette. Here's a closer look at her creation:

• She used a background of Festive Farmhouse Designer Series Paper in a Cherry Cobbler plaid on her Crumb Cake card base topped with a panel of Very Vanilla backed with Soft Sea Foam.
• She stamped many of the little fir twigs from Winter Woods in Mossy Meadow on Soft Sea Foam card stock. This is where it's so handy that the In the Woods Framelits has three identical framelits to die cut these little dudes out otherwise you could be standing there for hours.
• She stamped the pinecones in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake cardstock and use the two identical framelits to die cut those in record time as well.
• From the Merry Christmas to All bundle, she stamped the frame and the sentiment you see and used the framelit to die cut it, then backed it with a slightly larger rectangle of Crumb Cake, trimming the ends and corners to match by hand. It is popped up on Dimensionals.
• A double round of the Braided Linen Trim adds a rustic finishing touch to her Christmas Greeting card. So cute!!

Dashing Deer for Freshly Made Sketches

Remember "Dasher", one of Stampin' Up!'s favourite Christmas images over the years?

I think this is the kind of look they were going for again when they designed the images in the stamp set Dashing Deer and the coordinated and bundled thinlits, Detailed Deer Thinlits:

Anyway, it is one of my favourite bundles in the new Holiday Catalogue for just that reason, with the added benefits of more than one image and matching dies to cut them out. I've been dying to ink them up, so when the lovely blank challenge sketch came up this week over at Freshly Made Sketches, it was the perfect time to do it.

I didn't want to do a square card, but I did make a regular sized card with a square panel on the front.

I'm also entering, for the first time, a colour challenge from Colour Inkspirations, Challenge #40 with this inspiration photo: 

I decided to add the metallic Gold to the rich colour palette in this photo!

 Here's how it looks:

• I used the Pinewood Planks Dynamic embossing folder on the Old Olive panel because of all the woodwork in the inspiration photo, even though it would have been more appropriate on the Early Espresso. It wouldn't have shown up as well on the really dark cardstock and I wanted the green, purple and gold together anyway.
• I did use the Corrugated Dynamic embossing folder on the Early Espresso band because it's such a rich texture and shows up well on the dark cardstock.
• The deer is stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss powder. The designs on the stamped image end up giving it such an antique gold effect. Then I was able to die cut the deer with the matching thinlit.
• The Gorgeous Grape flourishes are thinlets from the Detailed Deer thinlet set and they echo the ornate curves of the antlers.
• Finally the sentiment is from the same stamp set, but I die cut it with a framelit from the Merry Christmas Thinlit dies and embossed around the edges with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder to give it some definition.
