Poppy Moments for Remembrance Day

When the Peaceful Poppies Suite came out in the 2020 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue last spring, I immediately thought about Remembrance Day and hoped that they would carry over so that I could use them in November. Well, my wish came true and today I'm using the Poppy Moments Dies to create a loving Remembrance Day card that honours the veterans among us, especially as we cannot come out to live Remembrance Day ceremonies due to the second wave of COVID, to honour them in person.

It is these same special people who are often the most vulnerable to the pandemic as they often live in retirement communities and care homes. God bless them for the sacrifices they have made and may we all do better at keeping them safe in the days ahead.

  • If you are reading my post from another country besides Canada and the UK, perhaps you don't understand the significance of the poppy in our Remembrance Day ceremonies. It comes from a poem written by a Canadian, Major John McCrae, in the midst of the second battle of Ypres during the First World War. The poppies grew amongst the graves of fallen soldiers and you can read the poem here.
  • I needed a die for a cross and didn't have one, so I improvised with two of the dies from the Detailed Bands set. I trimmed the ends off the die cut piece forming the horizontal length of the cross and I kept the middle of the vertical die cut piece in the center and held it in place with the horizontal cross piece.
  • The poppy outlines were die cut in Real Red, while the centers were done in Poppy Parade with Basic Black centers. The leaves were Old Olive with Mossy Meadow shadows.
  • The sentiment is from the Seaside Notions stamp set and die cut with a label from the Perfect Parcel die set.
  • The background is DSP from the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper and it has been embossed with the Scripty 3D Embossing folder and sponged with Gray Granite ink.

Only two more days to register for this online class. You can read more of the details HERE. *Just an update however: If you are interested in Option 3, which includes the Curvy Christmas stamp set, we have just learned that it is temporarily out of stock, and won't be orderable until the middle of November.
If you still want to do Option 3, you can still register and I will send you the Class Package later with the stamp set when it's available and I will also send you the private YouTube link with the Facebook Live recording so you can still do the class. (You can also watch it ahead of time at the appointed class time on Facebook.) Or you can order an alternative set with the same value from my Online Store, and I will send you the class pack and free gift in the mail.

Over the next 3 days, I will be attend Onstage@Home, our big Convention, but this year all on line! I'm excited for all the new products we will see from the upcoming Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue and Sale-A-Bration Brochure from 2021! (I'm SO HAPPY to be writing 2021! It's GOT to be better than 2020, doesn't it??) Watch my Facebook Page and my Instagram for updates from the convention over the next three days!!

New Wonders for Retirement!

I'm going to a retirement party today for 3 of my former colleagues who are finally pulling the plug on their careers in exchange for a well-earned life of leisure - well, at least a different, less stressful career of their own choosing, if they choose to keep working in some way. I showed you one card I made a while back HERE. But for another fun-loving and free spirited coworker, I chose New Wonders as the stamp set for her retirement card. It's got a great image of a little fairy turning a page to a new experience that is perfect for retirement!

  • I looked around for some suitable Designer Series Paper to use and the See a Silhouette series offered me a couple of choices with a vibrant look of Pigment Sprinkles in the background. The design I settled on was varying tones of Poppy Parade, so I decided to pair it with a Crumb Cake base and a little Pool Party and Old Olive as accents.
  • A smaller panel of Crumb Cake was embossed using the new Scripty 3D Embossing Folder. I love the raised letters you get with this folder. The letters are so fine, much finer than I expected they would be. I sponged over them with Crumb Cake ink so they would show up better.
  • The image from New Wonders was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a panel of Whisper White and coloured in using the Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends Markers Combo, along with the Pool Party and Old Olive Stampin' Blends Combos. I also used the Ivory Skin Tone Blends marker and the Stampin' Blends Colour Lifter to complete colouring the image.
  • The image was die cut with the Rectangle Stitched dies and mounted on the card front, with the embossed panel and this one each stuck on a little askew from each other.
  • As for the sentiments, they are both from the New Wonders stamp set, which is a Host Set and only available if you are the host of a party, or earn rewards from an order of $200 or more before tax and shipping. If you are interested in getting more frequent Stampin' Rewards, I offer a Stamp Club that you can join and pick one month as your Host Month and you earn rewards on all the orders placed in that month's stamp club order. In return, you commit to spending a minimum $20 a month for 12 months so that the other members of the club can earn rewards in their Host Months. I currently have 2 or 3 spots open in my club, so first come first served, in terms of picking their host month.
  • The separate sentiment at the bottom is stamped in Poppy Parade on Whisper White and die cut with one of the labels from the Perfect Parcel dies. I die cut a second label in Poppy Parade, cut it in half vertically and adhered a half on either end of the sentiment label to create some contrast.
  • I don't know if you can tell with this photo, but I also added some Wink of Stella to the front as well as a few small rhinestones coloured with the Light Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends Marker.

I'm madly preparing for my big 2019 - 2020 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue Launch coming up this Saturday, June 22 from 1 - 3 pm.
