Poppy Moments for Remembrance Day

When the Peaceful Poppies Suite came out in the 2020 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue last spring, I immediately thought about Remembrance Day and hoped that they would carry over so that I could use them in November. Well, my wish came true and today I'm using the Poppy Moments Dies to create a loving Remembrance Day card that honours the veterans among us, especially as we cannot come out to live Remembrance Day ceremonies due to the second wave of COVID, to honour them in person.

It is these same special people who are often the most vulnerable to the pandemic as they often live in retirement communities and care homes. God bless them for the sacrifices they have made and may we all do better at keeping them safe in the days ahead.

  • If you are reading my post from another country besides Canada and the UK, perhaps you don't understand the significance of the poppy in our Remembrance Day ceremonies. It comes from a poem written by a Canadian, Major John McCrae, in the midst of the second battle of Ypres during the First World War. The poppies grew amongst the graves of fallen soldiers and you can read the poem here.
  • I needed a die for a cross and didn't have one, so I improvised with two of the dies from the Detailed Bands set. I trimmed the ends off the die cut piece forming the horizontal length of the cross and I kept the middle of the vertical die cut piece in the center and held it in place with the horizontal cross piece.
  • The poppy outlines were die cut in Real Red, while the centers were done in Poppy Parade with Basic Black centers. The leaves were Old Olive with Mossy Meadow shadows.
  • The sentiment is from the Seaside Notions stamp set and die cut with a label from the Perfect Parcel die set.
  • The background is DSP from the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper and it has been embossed with the Scripty 3D Embossing folder and sponged with Gray Granite ink.

Only two more days to register for this online class. You can read more of the details HERE. *Just an update however: If you are interested in Option 3, which includes the Curvy Christmas stamp set, we have just learned that it is temporarily out of stock, and won't be orderable until the middle of November.
If you still want to do Option 3, you can still register and I will send you the Class Package later with the stamp set when it's available and I will also send you the private YouTube link with the Facebook Live recording so you can still do the class. (You can also watch it ahead of time at the appointed class time on Facebook.) Or you can order an alternative set with the same value from my Online Store, and I will send you the class pack and free gift in the mail.

Over the next 3 days, I will be attend Onstage@Home, our big Convention, but this year all on line! I'm excited for all the new products we will see from the upcoming Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue and Sale-A-Bration Brochure from 2021! (I'm SO HAPPY to be writing 2021! It's GOT to be better than 2020, doesn't it??) Watch my Facebook Page and my Instagram for updates from the convention over the next three days!!

Poppy Moments Dies for a Craft Retreat Project

I'm working on the projects we'll be doing at my 1 Day Craft Crop to Aid Refugees on March 14th. In the Swag Bag for each attendee there will be some of the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper and I wanted another project that would take advantage of that because it is such gorgeous paper! I really like the design that has half of it as a field of poppies complete with stems and grass and sky in a stylized form. I thought it would make a great backdrop for a die cut poppy or two using the Poppy Moments layering dies. And the back of one of the other designs has a variegated Poppy Parade wash that creates a great backing for one of the poppies shown here. Take a closer look:

  • A piece of that particular design of the Peaceful Poppies DSP, 5 1/4" x 4" is mounted on the Blackberry Bliss card base.
  • A backing for the large poppy is die cut from the back of the small red poppy design from the same set of DSP. The outline die cut is made from Poppy Parade cardstock and the center is die cut from Basic Black cardstock.
  • The purple poppy backing is just Rich Razzleberry cardstock while the outline is die cut from Blackberry Bliss cardstock and the center is again, Basic Black.
  • The leaves are die cut from Old Olive cardstock and Mossy Meadow, then added to the DSP where they fit well. The poppies are added using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the new Sale-A-Bration set Tags in Bloom. While it's supposed to coordinate with the Label Me Fancy Punch from the Jan/Jun Mini, I don't have that punch yet, so I paired it instead with the Timeless Label Punch and it works quite well.
  • I added some sprinkly dots to the tag in Poppy Parade and Blackberry Bliss ink so it wouldn't be so stark white and echoing the dots in the DSP, using the dots from the SAB stamp set Happy Birthday to You.

But don't wait too long to earn your favourites. We've just had news that the Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper is now sold out, joining the Kerchief Card Kit and the Metallic Baker's Twine & Sequins Combo Pack.
