Happy Birthday for As You See It Challenges

Hey, there!  Yes, you!  Happy Birthday!  It's not your birthday today?  Well, it will be sometime this year, right?  So this is for you.  Apply it sometime in the next 12 months!

It's Friday and time for another As You See It Challenge, this time a theme - Birthdays!  And it's a birthday theme, because it is our One Year Anniversary at As You See It Challenges! Woot!  In honour of that, I have heard a rumour that there might be some blog candy available for this challenge.  Pop on over and find out!

I have wanted to use the Seize the Cake sentiment forever and it never seemed to work out, so I was determined that I would ink it up for this challenge.  Then I set out to find a cake image!  Here's the results:

  • My inspiration, the Seize the Cake sentiment, as well as the Happy Birthday are from the Something to Say stamp set.  I finally found the cake I wanted from Life's Adventure, a Hostess set.  That means it is only available as Hostess rewards, so to get it, you either need to host a party or join my Stamp Club, both of which I have openings for. Email me.
  • My colour choices were made because of another challenge, Colour Throwdown #308:

  • I put another couple of stamp sets to work as well with this design.  You will all recognize Gorgeous Grunge in the background, giving the card that celebratory look, and also Everything Eleanor for the backing for the cake.  Both the cake and the background label were fussy cut with Paper Snips!
A fairly simple card concept, but lots of fun to create.  Maybe you can use it to wish someone else a happy birthday!  And head over to As You See It Challenges and enter this week challenge for a chance at some blog candy!

  • Here's a little card I designed for my Technique Night Class this week.  I used the Lullaby Designer Series Paper and the Something for Baby Stamp Set for the onsie on the front.  The sentiment was from Itty Bitty Banners, and was die cut with the coordinating framelits called Bitty Banners Framelits.
  • It uses the Building Block Pop Up Technique, so you have to see the inside.  It looks like this:
  • The card has a liner so that the little cubes can pop up but the cut away part won't show.  I used my Stampin' Trimmer to cut all the pop ups.  The liner measures 5 1/4" x 8 1/4", scored at 4 1/8".  I made 1 1/2" cuts all along the folded edge of the liner at 1/4", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" 2 1/2", 2 3/4", 3 3/4, 4" and 5",.  I scored at the ends of the cuts on both sides, then folded the 1" sections into mountain folds and the 1/4" sections into valley folds.
  • I used the Postage Stamp Punch to punch out 2 of each colour "postage stamps" - Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana, Pistachios Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe.
  • I used the Little Letters Thinlits dies to cut out the letters for the boxes, in the same colours.
  • The inside sentiment is from Something to Say, a very versatile little stamp set.
Come on out to my Technique Nights if you want to make this one! Register here for Wednesday night and here for Thursday night.

House Warming Congratulations for My Stamper's Dozen Class

I enjoy coming up with cards for my classes.  It gives me a direction to go with my designs.  Yesterday, I was designing for my All Occasion Stamper's Dozen class and, previously, one of my customers had mentioned to me that she had every kind of card except a Congratulations card.  So I set out to come up with a couple of designs.  The one that you see above would make a good "Congratulations, you've just bought a home!" or even a Housewarming card.  I decided I would use the layout for Pals Paper Arts Challenge #208:

  • I really love Baked Brown Sugar and Hello Honey together, especially with a little touch of Blackberry Bliss.  I rounded the corners of the Hello Honey panel and embossed it using the Stylish Stripes embossing folder.  Just rounding the corners made it more a part of the design instead of just being in the background.
  • The house stamp is from a set called Life's Adventure.  It's a 5 stamp Hostess set which means that, in order to get it, you have to receive Hostess Benefits.  How do you do that?  Well, you host a party or private class which will hopefully put the orders from the party over $200 or more.  Then you are eligible for at least $35 in free product, and you can use your Hostess dollars to purchase the special Hostess stamp sets, which are priced lower so you can get more for your money as a reward for being a hostess.  Another way is to place an order on-line for over $200 before shipping and taxes, and you will earn at least $35 in free product yourself.
  • There is one more way, and that's to join Stampin' Up! as a Demonstrator.  Then you can order all those Hostess stamps you want!  To do that, look for the "Join My Team" buttons and follow the prompts.  I'd love to have you on my Papercraft Cats Team!
  • This was the first time that I have effectively used the little Essentials Wooden Elements on a card, but these were the perfect embellishment!  You can stamp with regular ink right on them and it doesn't rub off.
  • I stamped the house in Baked Brown Sugar but I added the ink using a Stampin' Write Marker instead of the stamp pad so that I could avoid using the Welcome sentiment that's part of the house image.  I used the Mossy Meadow Stampin' Write Marker to ink up the tree top as well.  After the image was stamped, I used Hello Honey and Blackberry Bliss Stampin' Write Markers to add the accents you see.
  • The Congratulation sentiment that I did use came from the set, Something to Say, as did the heart on the Essential Wooden Accent.
  • You may recognize the Designer Series Paper strip across the top as part of the Moonlight Designer Series Paper stack.  It's a great little bargain, with 48 sheets of double sided DSP for just $8.50!
