Stampin' Up! Delivers the Goods!

• Here's a little card I designed for my Technique Night Class this week.  I used the Lullaby Designer Series Paper and the Something for Baby Stamp Set for the onsie on the front.  The sentiment was from Itty Bitty Banners, and was die cut with the coordinating framelits called Bitty Banners Framelits.
• It uses the Building Block Pop Up Technique, so you have to see the inside.  It looks like this:

• The card has a liner so that the little cubes can pop up but the cut away part won't show.  I used my Stampin' Trimmer to cut all the pop ups.  The liner measures 5 1/4" x 8 1/4", scored at 4 1/8".  I made 1 1/2" cuts all along the folded edge of the liner at 1/4", 1 1/4", 1 1/2" 2 1/2", 2 3/4", 3 3/4, 4" and 5",.  I scored at the ends of the cuts on both sides, then folded the 1" sections into mountain folds and the 1/4" sections into valley folds.
• I used the Postage Stamp Punch to punch out 2 of each colour "postage stamps" - Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana, Pistachios Pudding and Crisp Cantaloupe.  
• I used the Little Letters Thinlits dies to cut out the letters for the boxes, in the same colours.
• The inside sentiment is from Something to Say, a very versatile little stamp set.

What Does the Fox Say?

Oooh, I'm ridiculously excited to post this one!  I hope no one else gets the idea before this is published. First, though, you need to have seen this video.  It's made by a Norwegian comedy team, Ylvis, and is a pop music parody that went viral, much to the surprise of Ylvis!  But, I write too much.  You need to watch it.


            

Now, what you need to know is the The Paper Players' Challenge #170 is to use wildlife in your card.

As soon as I saw the fox on the Challenge sketch, the idea hit me.  The stamp set Storybook Friends has a great fox image carrying a banner, and then I went crazy!  Here's my card:

• Even though all of this is in fun, there are some serious techniques used here.  I did some sponging and masking of the background and I used repeated stamping without reinking  to create depth in the background forest and give a mist effect (See video).  And this is my first starburst background as well.
• I used Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay, Pacific Point, Midnight Muse and Basic Black as I sponged from lightest to darkest.  
• I used a torn post-it note and sponged Midnight Muse and Basic Black to create ground levels.

• Do we have a stamp that says "What does the Fox say?"  No, but I created a banner in My Digital Studio, cut it out and mounted it on my project.
• To create the starburst effect, I took a sheet of silver foil cut to the same dimensions as the background panel.  I decided where my focal point would be and then, on the back of the foil, used the smallest of the Circles Collection Framelits to trace a small circle around the focal point.  I then drew lines from an edge right through the focal point to a spot on the other side of the card.  I cut out every other ray to form this design.
• The fox is from Storybook Friends and I stamped him in StazOn Jet Black, then sponged some Cajun Craze on him and touched up the details with Cajun Craze Stampin' Write Marker.  Then I hand cut him out and popped him up on dimensionals.

• And here's how I made this card into a usable birthday card!  This inside panel uses the Deco Label Collection Framelits and another fox image from Storybook Friends, just making use of his head.  I printed a second banner from MDS to cut and adhere to this page and the Happy Birthday sentiment is from Itty Bitty Banners stamp set.

It's crazy the way some things go viral for no discernible reason!  Maybe because they are so random and people are willing to look silly.  Anyway, I hope you got a chuckle out of this post!

Mother's Day - Guest Stamper

Last Sunday was Mother's Day and even though they couldn't be home to celebrate with me, each of my three girls did something special for me.  I had a nice Skype conversation with each of them.  My oldest sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers, my youngest is actually going to visit us this coming weekend and my middle daughter, Kristen, sent a hand-stamped card.  I liked it so much that I wanted to share it with you.

She used a stamp set that both she and I really like, but she was the only one who ordered it.  It's called Cottage Window and you don't often see it used, but it has a lot of versatility!  Unfortunately, it's being retired this year so if you like it, best get your order in by the end of the month.  She also used a couple of other stamp sets to embellish the image.  The little balloon is from Collage Curios which is in the Spring Mini and will expire on May 31st.  The clouds are from Up, Up and Away, another retiring set, and the sentiment is from Itty Bitty Banners.

I like her choice of DSP from Comfort Cafe, because it looks just like wallpaper, and the strip of Victorian Crochet trim and the Basic Gray button are the perfect touches to finish it off.

I love how Kris so carefully hand cut all the elements including the center of the window and backed it with Marina Mist card stock before adding the clouds and the balloon.

The whole window frame is actually popped up on dimensionals, giving it a real 3D look.
