And Now for Something Completely Different

After three days of technique-filled pretty cards, I decided that it was time for something completely different! So I inked up the new photopolymer stamp set from Stampin' Up! called "Just Kidding!"

Have you ever remembered something that you thought was hilarious when you first saw it, but hadn't actually seen in many years? I had that experience as I wrote this blog post. The title made me think of a movie I saw when I was in University back in the seventies, Monty Python's "And Now for Something Completely Different!"

We thought it was side-splittingly funny at the time and my hubby and I regularly quote some of the sketches to each other, but when I looked up some of them on Youtube, I was astounded to find that I remembered them quite a bit differently than they really were... and not all that funny. What do you think?  Here's one of the sketches that we quote often:  Strangers in the Night.  It's funny, but I remember the husband asking, "What's that noise, Vera?" instead of "What's going on, Vera?" It's ruined all my quotes, having watched it again.

One clip that has lived up to my expectations is the "Witches Trial". My favourite line in that sketch is: "She turned me into a newt! ..... I got better!"

Anyway, enough reminiscing. Let's take a look at the card:

• I wanted to compliment the cartoon aspect of the stamp set with some bold designs, but finding a couple of DSP's  that worked together wasn't so easy. These designs are from two series: Sweet Taffy and Sweet Dreams. The colours work well, but I'm not too sure about the designs. I tried to use the rule about large scale with small scale designs working together, but the difference in the style may have worked against me here.
• Missing my Blendabilities!!  I used regular Stampin' Write Markers to colour in the image, but it just doesn't have the pop that alcohol markers give. And you can't spend too much time on it because Whisper White will begin to pill if you work it too long with the water based markers.
• I love the sentiment, and check out the second part of it that I used inside the card:

Valentines for Grandkids

I'm working hard to get my Valentine cards for my grandkids in the mail. I don't know if I'll make it for Saturday or not, but I thought I'd share a couple with you while I'm in the process.  These two cards are for my two oldest grandsons, Parker and Kesten.  I'll tell you a little more about why I chose these images.

The card on the left is for Kesten, who is 2 and 1/2.  He loves riding his bike as you can see in the photos. When Ken and I last visited, we honestly couldn't keep up with him, he would get going so fast! 

The card on the right is Parker's and he is just turned 3 in January. In the photo above, he is reading his favourite series with Mommy, Curious George!

• The bike is from the stamp set, Life's Adventure. It has a sentiment below it, but I masked the sentiment using tape over it while I inked up the stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then removed the tape to stamp. The sentiment I added is from And Many More stamp set. which is full of great greetings! The little hearts are from You Plus Me. The Real Red panel is embossed with the Happy Heart embossing folder.
• The second card has an Elegant Eggplant and Daffodil Delight colour scheme because purple is Parker's favourite colour and yellow for the Man in the Yellow Hat - a very important character in the Curious George series. The tree and the squirrel are from a Hostess set, Nuts About You. Curious George has a squirrel friend named Jumpy and they have an uneasy friendship! I wanted a tree so that George, the little monkey, would have something to climb. I stamped the monkey image from Zoo Babies a number of times to symbolize George's penchant for getting into trouble every time he is left alone! I used the same sentiment as in Kesten's card and the little hearts are just punched out of the yellow DSP (from Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper) and Elegant Eggplant card stock.

I'll show you some more as I get them finished.  I'm going to include some treats for the grown-up kids as well, courtesy of January's Paper Pumpkin:
