Friends are Like Seashells for January's Newsletter Tutorial

Well, it's finally 2021! What is that going to be like? My instinct is that we haven't seen the worst of things yet, but that things will start to look better about the time summer rolls around, so we just have to get through the winter and spring! We can do that right? I'd say with a little help from our friends, but my friends sometimes feel like a distant memory. Thank goodness I have a couple of them that go out of their way to find creative ways to connect! Yesterday, we had a Scavenger Hunt that we played as individual couples but competing as a group to finish first and best by taking photos of ourselves in various locations after we had figured out the clues! It was a perfect COVID New Year's Eve activity! Here's a couple of our terrible selfies:

We had a list of 25 things we had to do!

I made a card that celebrates friendship and it will be my January Newsletter's Free Photo Tutorial this month. It features the *Friends are Like Seashells stamp set from the *Sand & Sea Suite, in the up coming 2021 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue, and you will be able to purchase this set on January 5.

  • In this free tutorial, I also teach you to use the new *Blending Brushes to blend the ink onto a bit of a hand stamped background panel using an Emboss Resist technique.
  • We make use of the Metallic Mesh Ribbon that is being carried over from the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue for Fishing Net of sorts.
  • The Sand & Sea Designer Series Paper comes in handy for a decorative band across the card.
  • The Tasteful Labels Dies and the *Seaside Seashells Dies are used to die cut the various elements.
My photo tutorials are step-by-step instructions fully illustrated with photos, with a list of materials used, including measurements. If you would like to receive this free tutorial, just sign up to receive my Free Monthly Newsletter, with the understanding that you can easily unsubscribe at anytime, and the promise that I won't flood your inbox with emails. Just add in the necessary information at the bottom of the page and send it to be added to my email list and receive the newsletter, which keeps you up to date with Stampin' Up! promotions, and my Online Classes and Events.

Forever Fern Newsletter Tutorial

I've been working on my June newsletter this week, among other things, and I got such a good response from my Facebook readership for the die cut version of this *Forever Fern card, that I decided to redesign it as a stamped card and make a photo tutorial of it for my June newsletter.

Each month I send out a free newsletter to my readers and I include a free tutorial in each one as a thank you for being faithful readers and subscribers. The tutorials are step-by-step how-tos illustrated by photos of every step. In addition, there is a list of all supplies needed along with measurements and quantities needed. Here's a closer look at the project:

  • It makes use of some fabulous new products that you will soon be able to purchase from the new 2020/21 Annual Catalogue from Stampin' Up! including the *Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper, the *Forever Fern distINKtive Cling Mount Stamp Set, the *Forever Flourishing Dies, the *Greenery Embossing Folders and the *Gold Hoops Embellishments.
  • The card base is the new In Colour, *Just Jade! Isn't it pretty? I think it's my favourite of all the new In Colours.
  • This distINKtive stamp set is amazing. It works so well. I had no issues with it no matter which stamp pad I used it with!
  • The sentiment comes with the stamp set, but you could use any number of small sentiments that you have on hand.
*New products from the 2020/21 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue. Not available to order until June 3, 2020 unless you become a Demonstrator!

Come to a Virtual Party with me Tomorrow Night

To help its demonstrators out, many of whom are hurting because they can't hold in-person classes, Stampin' Up! is throwing a Virtual Party Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time! This will be a fun event, with games, product demonstrations, and I can't promise, but maybe prizes??? There's no obligations for just attending and enjoying yourself, but should you want to purchase anything, you would do that through your own demonstrator!
To take advantage of this fun opportunity,  click HERE and ask to join this temporary Facebook group.

Now, yesterday, I was so busy working on a tutorial for this card, that I actually forget to get today's blog post up in time:

This will be the card that I'm doing a free photo tutorial for to include with my May newsletter!  The technique you would be learning is creating an alcohol ink background using your Stampin' Blends! You would be able to download the tutorial in PDF form if you were a subscriber to my newsletter, which is also free and comes once a month, and let's you know about all of Stampin' Up!'s latest promotions and my own classes, which now include online options. Scrappy Strip Technique for As You See It Challenges

Happy Friday, everyone! How are you all making out with the shelter at home initiative? Hands up if you are an introvert and have been training for this your whole life! Oooh, ooh! Me! Me! I'm thriving not having to go out! But I know this is hard on most of you, because my hubby is an extrovert and he is really struggling! I'm encouraging him to find online alternatives to his coffee chats with friends - not just phone calls, but actually seeing their faces and in groups, preferably. Zoom is an alternative, if he can help all his non-techie friends get it installed.

But it's a new challenge day over at As You See It Challenges and I have a special card for my Design Team sample today! It's also going to double as my free Newsletter Tutorial and it teaches a new technique pioneered by Bruno Bertucci. It's called the Scrappy Strip Technique and my version features the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper and coordinating colours of cardstock, as well as the Timeless Tropical stamp set from the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue.

It meets the requirements of the new Recipe Challenge over at As You See It Challenge:

It has to have flowers, a die cut, ribbon or twine, patterned paper and something shiny. See if you can find all these elements in this closeup:

  • The technique looks like it would be very technical, but it is really very easy and a lot of fun!
  • I used a palette suggested by the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper.
  • The flowers come from both the Timeless Tropical Stamp Set and the In The Tropics Dies.
  • The ribbon is the Braided Burlap Trim which is part of the Tropical Oasis Suite in the mini catalogue.
  • The shiny something is a series of Rhinestone Basic Jewels in the center of the plumeria flowers that I stamped and die cut.
  • The sentiment is a die cut from the In the Tropics Dies. It is cut from Pretty Peacock cardstock.
The tutorial will be a step-by-step photo tutorial that you will be able to get for free in my April Newsletter, which is also free. To subscribe to my newsletter, simply enter your email address and click on Go. It is easy to unsubscribe at any time if you would like to.
