new at su blog hop banner 1

Welcome to our February NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are featuring the 2022 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue  products. I'm highlighting the Grassy Grove bundle along with the New Horizons 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper.

This was the first time I've used this diorama technique to make this 3D card, but the Grove Dies that are bundled with the Grassy Grove stamp set just begged for this kind of treatment so I had to give it a try. It is a standard card size back and front, but the sides are accordion folded to allow strips of cardstock between the folds on each side to act as layers for adding elements to the diorama. The background paper is from the New Horizons 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper, quick and easy and perfectly suited for this job.

The deer, both die cuts and stamped image, the deciduous trees and the evergreens that are hard to see here, are from the Grassy Grove stamp set and Grove dies. The front panel is also a die cut from the Grove Dies. You can die cut it from whatever size rectangle of cardstock you choose (as long as it's larger than the die.) The die doesn't die cut the outer edge. My plan was to appear as if you are in the dark deep woods looking towards a sunlit clearing.

The sentiments are from Grassy Grove as well and are stamped on bits of wood grain DSP from the In Good Taste DSP.

The measurements of the main base are 4 1/4" x 10 1/2" scored at each end on the long side a 1/2", 1", 1 1/2", 2" and 2 1/2". You fold on the score lines accordion style as you can see in these photos and attach strips of cardstock between them. Make the cardstock 5 3/8" long, so that the card will fold flat and not buckle when you flatten it. Also the DSP for the back panel should be 4 1/4" x 5 3/8". The front is held together strongly by a double narrow frame of cardstock glued together, 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", with the second largest Stitched Rectangle die cut from the middle.

Horizon Dies for Hubby's Valentine Card

horizon dies for hubby's valentine card

Just a quick post today to show you a Valentine card that I made my hubby! It's a little non-traditional both in colour and design, but I know he'll love it, because he grew up by the ocean and he loves it. The beautiful, beautiful New Horizons 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper with the abstract watercolour landscapes make creating artistic looking cards so easy.

  • On a Crumb Cake card base, and with a Night of Navy backing, I used one of the seascape designs from the New Horizons DSP and trimmed it to 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".
  • Using the Oceanfront stamp set, I stamped the grasses in Evening Evergreen. Using the On the Horizon stamp set, I stamped the birds in Night of Navy.
  • I die cut the beach fences in the Horizon Dies from the wood grain DSP from the Heart & Home DSP set and mounted them on the card front as shown with strips cut from the Mini Stampin' Dimensional sides.
  • I die cut the grass from the Horizon Dies and mounted it as shown using Mini Dimensionals.
  • The Crumb Cake heart was punched 4 times using the Heart Punch Pack. The sentiment from Always in My Heart was stamped on one using Evening Evergreen. All the hearts were glued together and the edges were sponged with Soft Suede ink. This 3D heart was glued to the card front as shown.

Calming Camellia for As You See It Challenges

calming camellias for aysi 1

Welcome to another As You See It Challenge Friday, where I share my Design Team samples with you. This week, the challenge, courtesy of team member Jan, is asking us to share what our favourite technique is via a Fill In The Blank Challenge. Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #268

I thought about what constitutes a technique, and in my mind, it's some process outside of normal card making that adds an extra touch or effect to a card. One technique that I love the look of and that I always have fun doing is the Whitewash Technique. I thought I'd try the technique out using the Calming Camellia stamp set that is a special gift for Hosts whose Stampin' Up! parties reach sales of $375 or more during Sale-A-Bration, which ends at the end of this month!!

  • The process works like this: You stamp your image in Versamark ink on Crumb Cake (or kraft paper). You emboss it with White Embossing powder which is available in the Basics Assortment of Stampin' Emboss Powders, and heat set it with the Heat Tool.
  • You then take the areas that are free of embossing powder and paint them in using a Water Painter and a watery mix of Whisper White Craft Ink.
  • After that coat has thoroughly dried, use a Blender Pen to add some ink from Stampin' Up! Classic Ink Pads or the Refills with a little bit squeezed into the lids. Add it to the areas that you have covered with the white kraft ink. It will blend with the white kraft in to make a lovely pastel shade. That's all there is to it!!
  • The base of this card is Basic Black cardstock, on which I added some Flirty Flamingo Simply Marbleous Designer Series Paper. Basic Black cardstock provides a backing for my front panel. The sentiment and swirl are from the Calming Camellia set as well.
