Seas the Day for As You See It Challenge #272

 As You See It Challenges has a sketch challenge this week and it's really interesting. It's bands of paper of lessening thicknesses as you go up across the front of the card. Here's what the sketch looks like:

I'm trying to use all my new Jan/Jun Mini stamp sets that I've got before the end of June, so the next one on my list was Seas the Day and I decided to use the Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper before it expires May 2. I used two of the designs, a darker blue that incorporates Night of Navy and Pacific Point and a lighter blue that uses Coastal Cabana. 

It was hard to figure out what widths I should cut the strips, but I finally settled on 1", 7/8", 3/4",5/8" and 1/2". I made them all 3 7/8" long while the DSP underneath was 4" x 5 1/4".

Here's a closer look:

• I stamped the seaweed image from the stamp set in Mint Macaron ink, and since there is no coordinating die I fussy cut it and mounted it on the card front.
• I stamped the other sea creatures in Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Flirty Flamingo, and Calypso Coral. All these had coordinating dies from the Sea Dies collection, so were die cut and mounted, some with glue dots and others popped up on dimensionals.
• The sentiment is from Inspired Thoughts because I felt the font suited the images. I die cut it using the Tailored Tags dies.

In the Moment for As You See It Challenge #271

 This week, for As You See It Challenges, it's the infamous Speed Challenge and the theme for this one was chosen by our newest design team member, Heather H.! She chose the interesting theme of Staying Dry, which has many nuances! Challenge #271 is called Flash Dry, to incorporate both speed and dryness! The Speed Challenges, as you may recall, have to be completed within 10 min., once you have gathered all your materials and thought out your design.

I had a shortage of umbrella and gumboot stamp sets, so I had to get creative. As I surveyed my stamps, I found the In the Moment stamp set which had a woman sitting on a window seat, looking out the window. I immediately thought, "Well, if she is looking out at a rainy day, she's staying dry by staying inside! Right??" The downside to this set was that I would have to colour the image, but I decided to do a trial run to see how long it would take to see if it was feasible. It took me almost 6 minutes, which left me 4 minutes for the rest of the card. I already had the pink and yellow scalloped rectangles in my stash so I didn't have to die cut them, so I decided to go ahead with the design.

• I stamped the image from In the Moment on Basic White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink as well as the sentiment from the same stamp set below the image.
• I used the sprinkle image from Nature's Beauty to stamp raindrops around the window pane areas using Balmy Blue ink. Some overlapped the image where it couldn't be helped, due to being in a hurry but colouring over them helped to hide them.
• I coloured in the area using Stampin Blends Combos in Soft Suede, So Saffron, Balmy Blue, Flirty Flamingo, and Night of Navy, plus Naturals Blends 800. I had to work pretty fast.
• I wrapped the right side of the image panel with Night of Navy Baker's Twine.
• On the Balmy Blue card base I added a layer of DSP from the Pattern Party collection, which reminded me of raindrops. Then I layered on and overlapped the Flirty Flamingo and So Saffron Scalloped Rectangles that were in my stash, die cut from Stitched So Sweetly dies.
• Finally I added my image panel and was done at the 9 min. 34 sec. mark.

I thought it was a pretty good solution to a puzzling problem!

Waves of the Ocean Suite

Anyone who has read my blog for awhile knows that I love anything related to the sea and I can't resist a suite that even hints of the ocean. So when I saw the Waves of the Ocean Suite I had to have it all. The Waves of Inspiration stamp set has a wave stamp that is the most incredibly detailed that I have seen in a long time.

And the Waves of the Ocean DSP is just amazing! The concept artist who created it did a series of paint pours over canvas and then photographed them to get the effect of waves.

The Wave Dies can create overlays for the stamped wave and if you use the coordinating foil package that comes in Coastal Cabana, Night of Navy and Silver, you can make some beautiful wave images.

I chose one of the Coastal Cabana designs of the Waves of the Ocean DSP patterns and used the Stamparatus to stamp it in Bermuda Bay and then at Pacific Point and Night of Navy by adding those inks to shadowed parts of the stamp using an ink dauber and stamping each time. You end up with a really "in depth" image.

I stamped a couple of the Pelican on the Pilings images in Soft Suede and a couple of the sentiments and used the Wave dies to die cut both of those. 

I die cut one wave overlay in Night of Navy foil and one in Coastal Cabana foil as well as cutting a 5 1/4" x 4" backing for the main image from each of those foils as well. 

The sentiment backings were die cut from the corresponding foils as well using the large label die from the Wave Dies. Then they were all assembled as shown.

On Wednesday, I will get to see the new Annual Catalogue for 2022/23! So exciting. I will also be finding out what is retiring from the old Annual Catalogue! What do you think will be going. From now until May 2 will be your last chance to pick up items that you want that will be retiring.
