Boxing Day Review

I hope your Christmas was everything you hoped it would be!  Traditionally, Boxing Day has been my day to kick back after all the work of Christmas Day and before, and just relax and play with my new toys! I refuse to go shopping, as is the custom of some, to take advantage of all the big bargains out there! Why don't they have all the big bargains BEFORE Christmas?? Just sayin'!

Wondrous Wreath Stamp Set and Wonderful Wreath Framelits

In the spirit of kicking back and relaxing, I wanted to reshare some of the Christmas designs I posted this year and get you looking back at the Holiday Catalogue.  January 5 will be the last day to order from the Holiday Catalogue, so I want you to be sure that you haven't missed ordering something you really love! Click on each photo to take you back to the original post.

Guest Stampers - Sandra Wiens and Dianne Gough

I get cards! I love receiving Christmas cards, especially hand-crafted ones, as you can imagine! I want to showcase two of them, sent by two of my good customers.

The first is a card created by Sandra Wiens:

Here's what I love about this one:

  • I love all the delicate details!  Those perfect little ornaments, the tiny print of the DSP, the elegant branch - they are all tiny, but exquisite.
  • I love the layout of this design, especially the way the ribbon was used. It's creative and beautiful.
  • I love the sparkle from the dazzling details on the ornaments to the sparkly embellishment on the ribbon, it is just the right amount of dazzle!
Thanks, Sandra, for this beauty!

The second is a card made by Dianne Gough:

There is so much to love about this design, too:
  • I love the red bird on the white background!  Who doesn't love red birds at Christmas time?  I I like the little pops of red berries on the branch as well!
  • I love all the texture in the mostly white card.  The snowflakes in the background are beautifully embossed, the intricate die-cut branch and the sparkly, fuzzy snowflakes, all add interest and variety to the card.
  • The balance of this design is perfect.  The eye focuses on the red bird of course, but everything else is arranged so that the card never feels empty in any spot.  Dianne uses the rule of thirds here in her placement of the bird.
Thanks, Dianne for this inspiring design.

Please leave some love for these ladies with some encouraging comments below.  I'm sure they would appreciate the positive feedback!

And Merry Christmas Eve to all my readers!  I will be taking a bit of a break tomorrow for Christmas, but I will be back on Friday with some of my favourite Christmas designs this year.

Stacked with Love for Freshly Made Sketches

Whoa! This is quite the colour combination! It comes from the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack in the new Occasions Catalogue: Basic Black, Real Red, Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral and Whisper White.  Let me just say, proceed with caution. I've only used 4 out of the 5 colours here and it still looks busy. This is after I'd simplified it a bit, but I think that is key here.  Don't try to use all the colours in the set. Pick and choose.

I chose this design after looking at the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge Sketch:

I wanted to showcase some of the Valentine's products and this sketch made me think of a medallion so I pulled out the Stacked with Love paper and got to work.

  • The medallion was made with 4 pieces of Stacked with Love DSP cut at 1 1/4" x 6 1/2". I scored them every half inch on the inch on one side, then flipped the paper and scored every 1/2" on the 1/4 inch. I made accordion folds using the score lines and glued every piece together and then the last and the first piece together to form a cylinder.
  • I gathered the folds together and pressed down in the middle on a Jumbo Sticky Round to make the medallion. It needs a top to keep it in place so I punched out a Scallop Circle from Red Glimmer Paper using the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch. I added it to the top using Tombow Multipurpose glue to keep the medallion flat.
  • The sentiment comes from the new stamp set, You Plus Me, and I stamped it in Real Red ink on Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with the 1 3/4" Circle punch. I also punched out the little heart from Red Glimmer Paper using the heart punch from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and added over where the stamped heart would be.
