Amazing Life Birthday Card with Texture

I'm working on Birthday Card designs right now and I randomly pulled Mango Melody cardstock out, thinking that it would be a lively colour to pair with the Amazing Life stamp set, which I needed to ink up for the first time. Then I tried to find DSP and other colours to match up with it and wow! That colour is not easy to match. Well, not if you are not a fan of the complementary colours that Stampin' Up! often pairs. I'm much more of an analogous colour person where I will choose colours much closer to each other on the colour wheel with the same undertones, along with neutrals and they somehow have to kind of 'glow' together! It's an instinct for me, but I really struggled with Mango Melody. The best match for me was Calypso Coral but it needed an intermediary colour so I used So Saffron, with Crumb Cake as a neutral.

Without a proper DSP to match these colours, I needed lots of texture for my backgrounds, so I settled on the Ruffled Dynamic Embossing Folder for the Calypso Coral panel and the Corrugated Dynamic Embossing Folder for the Crumb Cake strip. For both of these pieces, I lightly spritzed the paper first with water so that I could get the deep impression without the paper cracking, especially in the case of the Corrugated Folder.

MOJO Monday is Back!! With Dandelion Wishes

One of my all time favourite challenges was Mojo Monday and I was mildly heartbroken last year when the challenge shut down after 9 years of weekly challenges! But I found out some great news this week: Julee Tilman has started up a more relaxed version of Mojo Monday on her own blog and I'm excited to be playing along for the first time in a long time! I'm busy coming up with simple but attractive birthday card designs for my Birthday Buffet class this coming Saturday and this will be one of them, featuring the Dandelion Wishes stamp set.

Here's the Mojo Monday Challenge Banner:

What I especially like about these sketches is that they include measurements! How cool and useful is that?? Here's my entry:

  • I started with a Coastal Cabana cardbase and added a panel of Soft Sea Foam of 4 3/4" x 2 1/4", embossed using the Layered Leaves Dynamic Embossing Folder.
  • I used the single dandelion seed head stamp from Dandelion Wishes to stamp the image twice, once right on the card base and once on a 4" x 4" piece of Whisper White cardstock. I die cut the Whisper White one using the 2 1/2" Stitched Circle die from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. Using the Layering Circle Framelits, I also die cut a scallop circle matte just a little larger in Basic Black. After adhering the White circle to the Black matte I glued it partially over the Soft Sea Foam panel so that it matches the stamped image on the card base, as shown.
  • I stamped the sentiment, from Itty Bitty Birthdays (from the Occasions Catalogue) on one strip of Whisper White that was 3/8" x 2 1/2" centering it. I then cut the strip in half to separate the two words of the sentiment. and backed each half with a Basic Black strip the same size, slightly offset. I added a couple of dandelion seeds to finish off the end of the Wishes panel because Wishes is much shorter than Birthday, so leaves a big space on the right hand side that needed filling.
  • I finished by adding 3 self-adhesive sequins from the Gingham Gala Collection.
Maybe you might want to play along with Mojo Monday again, too, and spread the word around that it's back!

All the Good Things for a Simple As You See It Challenge & 2nd Release SAB Rewards

Our newest As You See It Challenge is a Fill In the Blank Challenge called Simple is As Simple Does, where you are given an unfinished sentence and you fill in the blank with a word or phrase and then you use that word or phrase to guide the making of your project. Here is As You See It Challenge #194's Banner:

And the way I filled in the blank was, "When I think SIMPLE, I think of lots of white, few colours and a simple image.  An image like the bonsai tree in the All the Good Things stamp set. And here's what that looks like to me:

  • The first thing you notice is the image of the bonsai tree from the All the Good Things stamp set from the Annual Catalogue. The image and the sentiment are all one stamp so I had to be very careful when I inked it up with both Soft Sea Foam ink and Memento Tuxedo Black ink. That procedure might not be termed simple, although it looks simple on the page. There are a couple of ways to make it easier. First, it would be fairly easy to trim the sentiment from the image and make two stamps. Then it's a piece of cake to ink them up in two different colours.
  • But if you think it's a sacrilege to cut up a stamp, then you could use the Stamparatus and ink up the image first in the Soft Sea Foam and stamp the image. Then you would clean the stamp and ink up the sentiment carefully, cleaning off any ink you get on the image portion of the stamp before stamping the sentiment below. You would take care not to move either the stamp or the paper in the Stamparatus in between the two inkings.
  • The Whisper White cardstock is mounted on some Designer Paper from the Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series in the Annual Catalogue.
  • The Silver & Petal Pink Baker's Twine is wrapped twice around these panels and tied in a small bow before they are adhered to the Petal Pink card base. Simple, but so pretty!

The second release Sale-A-Bration products are now available to earn! They are so lovely, especially the Painted Seasons Bundle!
