Christmas Pinecone Dies for As You See It Challenges

christmas pinecone dies 1

It's good to be back! I've been MIA for the better part of 2 weeks now which is very unlike me! In fact, it's probably the first time in over 7 years that I've gone so long without posting. I've had an extended stamper's block which is probably just another name for burn out. But those two weeks off were just what I needed, I think and I actually enjoyed myself, creating this new card for the latest As You See It Challenge which just happens to be a gorgeous Colour Challenge, curated by Design Team member LeAnne:

challenge #261

Look at those gorgeous colours! They work so well together! At first I was thinking a Halloween card, but I really don't have any good Halloween sets, so decided, with the silver colour, that I would do a Christmas theme:

  • On a Thick Basic White card base, I mounted a Basic White layer that was run through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine twice using one of the Wintery 3D Embossing Folders, embossing half of the layer each time.
  • I die cut some Basic White, Silver Foil and Granny Apple Green cardstock using the smaller Christmas Pinecone Die. I pared off some of the design (a different part for each colour) and layered them on the middle of the the Basic White layer with the silver layer on top. I used Glue Dots to attach.
  • I added a length of some retired Blackberry Bliss striped ribbon I had left over and then my sentiment label on dimensionals over that.
  • The sentiment is from the Merriest Moments stamp set, stamped in Blackberry Bliss ink.
  • Some Rhinestone Basic Jewels add some bling to the card.

And there's now a new Kit in the Kits Collection:

It's called the Love Santa collection. You can create 9 large graphic gift tags with it. So cute!

Merriest Moments for As You See It Challenges

merriest moments 1

It's time for a new As You See It Challenge and this week it is a sketch challenge, with the sketch developed by Design Team member, Jane.

As soon as I looked at it, I thought it would be perfect for the Merriest Moments bundle with the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder. And I just love the Tidings of Christmas 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper, so I decided to use that and the palette that goes with it.

  • You can see the 3 different designs of the Tidings of Christmas DSP I used in the background, 2 of them creating the perpendicular element. The palette for this paper includes Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, Cherry Cobbler and Sahara Sand. I also added a bit of Gold Foil in.
  • I used the Merriest Frames Hybrid Embossing Folder, which includes the embossing folder plus a die that matches the large frame and surrounding greenery. I had some difficulty getting a good detailed cut when using the die inside the embossing folder. It can be done but you might find that some of the smaller bits don't separate all that well. I embossed mine first and then die cut so that the die fit around the embossed part really well and made an accurate cut and I didn't even lose the embossing. It could be done the opposite way: die cut first and then emboss.
  • I die cut the center of the frame out with the stitched panel too. I used this to add all the greenery and the sentiment, then I replaced it in the middle using dimensionals for some vertical variety.
  • The greenery is stamped using images from the Merriest Moments stamp set which coordinates with the dies. I also added a sprig of the Christmas Pinecones Die that I cut from Gold Foil Sheets.
  • The sentiment is from the Merriest Moments stamp set and is stamped on the back of a left over sentiment label from a Kits Collection kit.
  • I finished off with a bow from the Simply Elegant Gold Trim.

Seasonal Swirls Dies

seasonal swirl dies 1

We have so many fantastic die sets and specialty papers in our catalogues that I wanted to make a birthday card with a minimum of stamping and instead focus on the amazing resources in paper and dies that we have to offer. So I got out my new Seasonal Swirls Dies set along with my favourite Blackberry Beauty Specialty DSP and the Brushed Metallic Cardstock to come up with the following Fall Birthday Card:

  • On a Cajun Craze cardstock base I added a Basic White cardstock layer, stamped with the sentiment from the Elegantly Said stamp set in Cajun Craze in the lower left corner.
  • I added a 2" strip of one of the patterns of the Blackberry Beauty Specialty Designer Series Paper pack across the middle.
  • I then cut three of the fall swirl die cuts with a pumpkin and two leaf patterns each, from the Copper and Gold Brushed Metallic Cardstock and some Cajun Craze cardstock.
  • I added each spiral using some glue dots then added the pumpkins, two with glue dots and 1 using a Stampin' Dimensional. I added various leaves, in mixed pairs and singly, around the wreath and in between the pumpkins.
