An Old Friend, Painted Harvest for Global Design Project

Well, fall is definitely here. We cancelled a camping trip because we're wusses! We just didn't want to camp in the cold and rain. We did that already in July. Darn it! We were hoping for sunshine and warm temperatures, but now I've got a cold coming on so it's just as well. But on our way down to Vancouver last weekend, we saw definite signs of autumn with the leaves starting to show hints of oranges and yellows, so it is time to get some warm harvest colours into my card making again.

When I saw Global Design Project's latest theme challenge #207, which is Bloom and Grow, I immediately thought of sunflowers, and an old friend - the Painted Harvest stamp set. I haven't inked that favourite of mine up in a while and this was the perfect opportunity. Here's the Challenge Banner:

And here is my entry:

  • I love warm autumn colours and my palette for this card was Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Soft Suede, Early Espresso, Cajun Craze and Garden Green, with Crushed Curry for the bow.
  • When stamping the sunflowers using 2 step stamping, I always stamp the more detailed, darker image first (in Mango Melody). This makes it easier, when I've inked up the less detailed filler stamp in a lighter coloured ink, to be able to see the already stamped image through the stamp and ink and to be able to line it up correctly. This stamp set gives you arrows on the stamp backing to help you line the stamps up as well.
  • The leaflet and the fern fronds were stamped in Early Espresso and Garden Green for the leaflet, and Cajun Craze and Mango Melody for the fern frond.
  • Everything but the leaflet, which could be punched out using the Leaf Punch, has to be fussy cut as there are no coordinating dies for this stamp set, which is a shame, as it's a bit of a production to do the fussy cutting.
  • I used the Stitched rectangles to die cut a rectangle from Soft Suede cardstock, then dry embossed it using the Corrugated Embossing Folder. This made a great background for the sentiment, which is from the Slice of Happiness stamp set.
  • The bow is a double finger bow, made from 3/8" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon in Crushed Curry.
  • The background paper is also from the Come to Gather DSP pack.
