Come Together for Freshly Made Sketches

Time for some more card challenges just because I can. Today's is Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #401 and I was struck by the Scandinavian look of their sketch today.

While most clean and simple designs need lots of white space, I think lots of neutral space qualifies, too and that's why I chose this pattern of Designer Series Paper from the Come Together Package of DSP in the Holiday Catalogue for this awesome little sketch based on a square card base. I love the offset concentric circles and I struggled for some way of representing them that would work with a fall-themed card. I first used two rings made from the Stitched Shapes Dies, but they were a bit too stark and boring for me. Then I came up with the idea to glue the Braided Linen Trim to them and cut them down a bit to even them out.

  • I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to do the job of gluing the Linen Trim onto the stitched circle rings. It worked fairly well, but beware of any glue getting in places other than where you want it, because the glue in that pen can't be cleaned up with an adhesive eraser easily.
  • The Seasonal Layers Dies created the two large leaves on the top part of the sentiment label from Pumpkin Pie and Merry Merlot cardstock. The bottom leaves are created from Gray Granite cardstock are punched with the punch die.
  • The sentiment, which was from the August Paper Pumpkin kit, is stamped in Merry Merlot on Whisper White cardstock and die cut with the Beautiful Boughs dies.
  • It's hard to see but I used an old, old retired tool from Stampin' Up! known as a spritzer to create the tiny splatters on the sentiment. The Braided Linen Trim Bow gives a jaunty final touch.

Tomorrow is the last day to subscribe to Paper Pumpkin to receive this great Halloween treat kit around Sept. 15th. Lots of fun for your kids or grandkids to put together, and you'll enjoy making this kit, too!
