Here comes the weekend, everyone! I hope the weather is great for you so that you can enjoy some outdoor time. Where I live, the weather has been "great" for days and days! That means we've had no rain and we've had hot, sunny days! And that means our forests have an extreme fire hazard rating. In fact there are over 200 fires burning in our province right now and over 14,000 people evacuated! Scary stuff! So if you do have some rain where you live, can you please send some here to BC? Thanks!
Friday means a new As You See It Challenge every two weeks and this is the week for a new one. It's another sketch by Amanda and she has us thinking in angles this time:
It's an interesting sketch and my take on it went in interesting directions as well. All I knew was that I wanted to play with my new Sheet Music Background stamp and it progressed from there, with the Remarkable You and Beautiful You stamp sets, some watercolouring, some Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper and a random musical staff die I happened to have from poppystamps, inc.
- I love how the green Delightful Daisy Designer Series Paper pairs up with the white and black of the Sheet Music stamp with the diagonal stripes contrasting with the horizontal lines of the music staffs. I've always loved a green, black and white colour combo!
- I stamped the flower from Remarkable You on a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamped first with the Sheet Music background stamp as well, both in StazOn ink. I would have used my Basic Black Archival ink, but it was upstairs in a bin waiting for my evening class to start, so I used what was available and on hand! (I'm too lazy to run up the stairs to get it!)
- I watercoloured the flower with an Aqua Painter and some Lemon Lime Twist first, then Old Olive ink. I made sure to dry my paper thoroughly between applications so that I wouldn't get the paper pilling on me. I love the shading you can get with those two greens.
- I fussy cut the flower and mounted it on the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals matching the lines of the music staffs in both the card front and on the flower.
- The sentiment from Beautiful You was stamped on the angle on the right in StazOn and I die cut the music staff from Basic Black cardstock which I had applied onto a Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet first. When it came through the Big Shot, the backing just fell away and I had a die cut already with adhesive on the back ready to apply to the left hand angle on the card front.
- The finishing touches were the circles of Basic Black cardstock punched using a hand-held hole punch and applied first to the music staff, note like, and then to the upper right corner as a balancing element, like enamel dots, which we don't have in black.
I hope you get time to pop over to As You See It Challenge over the weekend and play along with us!
I'm hoping to go for another kayak excursion this weekend and we are briefly seeing our daughter and son-in-law from Vancouver, as they make a stop over at our place before heading on to another destination for the weekend! Any excuse to see the grandkids, however short it might be!
