A Bike Ride to the Past for As You See It Challenges

I know everyone is dying for glimpses into the new Annual Catalogue, but in the meantime, there are many old favourites that are taking their last stands that we don't want to ignore either and there is one in particular that I thought I'd take out for a spin today, to demonstrate As You See It Challenge's latest challenge. It's a colour challenge that looks fairly innocuous at first glance, but proves to be devilishly hard to work with once you get going:

We've called it Copacabana, probably for the feathers and the colours, but there are a lot of weird elements to that challenge photo, like giant lego bricks and a fur covered chair and bright pink shag carpet, so yeah!

Anyway, the Bike Ride Photopolymer stamp set is retiring this year, as are the coordinating Build a Bike Dies, and I thought they would be a good way to use these colours so that I would have lots of options about where to use each of the three, but not huge overwhelming swaths of them either. With this combination, the more white space, the better!

  • Though I  typically don't care for stamp sets with a lot of little pieces that coordinate, using 2 step stamping, this set is actually really easy to stamp and coordinate and I find it really fun to "build the bike" with the dies. You get lots of options for what to put on the rear bike rack and a front carrier that's either this basket or a more accurate one that can be die cut.
  • I used the Pineapple Punch as the main colour for the bike with accents of Powder Pink and Lovely Lipstick and then the books and flowers used those colours as well. I had to throw in a little green for the leaves because yellow leaves just looked wrong, even though I added a little Pineapple Punch to the green leaves to see if I could bring it closer to the yellow.
  • I used an old retired embossing folder, Brick Wall, for the Whisper White background, but there is a new 3D embossing folder coming in the new Annual Catalogue called Brick & Mortar that you're going to love, if you loved this one like I did.
  • The sentiment is from the Beautiful You stamp set, which is making a comeback, only in Cling format. The button on the flag is from the Occasions Catalogue, a Needlepoint Nook Mini Button. There are about 3 different shades of them, but this one is a pretty good match for Powder Pink.

  1. This is a stunning card. Love the brick texture in the background and the pile of books on the bike.

  2. Love your cheery yellow bike Heather with the pink accents. These colours do indeed look great against that fabulous white background; the less is more approach makes the colours really pop!
