Why is it that every time I'm trying to get ready to go away for a holiday, all hell breaks loose on the home front, making it three times as difficult to get prepared, with three times as many tasks to do before I can go?? Can anyone relate?
I don't want to bore you, but we are going camping next week to my favourite campground. It's not far away, but it has it's own lake and lovely beach, the campsite has all the utilities, our friends are coming as well, and I'm so looking forward to the week! But it's also the week before our condo's AGM, and we're running into issues with our AGM package caused by our property management company, I'm preparing a powerpoint for a Town Hall meeting taking place next week that I'm going to have to come back for, someone got stuck in the elevator this afternoon, and I had to help, and I also had a card to make because this challenge happens! I'm going to be so ready to relax!
But I really love this week's Colour Challenge, created by Team member Joanne! The colours work so well together, even if they are all fairly bright! Take a look at the Challenge Banner:
Right away, I saw a sunset over the ocean, and the opportunity to use the Sunset Coast bundle for the first time. Check it out:
- I started with a card base of Coastal Cabana, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4".
- I added a panel of Lemon Lime Twist, 5 1/4" x 4".
- I cut a panel of Basic White 5" x 3 3/4" and taped it to my Stampin' Glass Mat Studio with about 1/4" margin around the edges and I also used one tape in the middle for the separation of sky and sea.
- Using blending brushes, I blended first a very little Lemon Lime Twist, then Melon Mambo, and then Berry Burst into the sky area, starting at the tape and blending upwards.
- I adjusted the tape, then, removing it and partly covering the sky, making a mask at the line between sea & sky. I changed brushed and blended first Lemon Lime Twist, then Coastal Cabana towards the bottom.
- I used the large sea texture stamp from Sunset Coast, along with Coastal Cabana, to stamp that texture near the horizon, then I added some Lemon Lime Twist, using the small sea texture stamp within it. I continued to use the large sea texture stamp with Coastal Cabana ink, but stamped off once or twice to create texture in the water all the way down. I added Wink of Stella to highlight the waves.
- I die cut from the neutral Basic Black cardstock, the lighthouse circle, then die cut it again with a circle die. I kept some of the cutouts in the lighthouse and rocks because I wanted a more solid look.
- I also die cut the sea birds, the sun and the sailboats, which look slightly out of proportion to me, and make me think of shark fins. The sun is die cut from Lemon Lime Twist card stock.
- I glued everything on where I wanted it and stamped the sentiment at the bottom of the panel with Memento ink. It looked better than I expected! The black silhouettes really stand out against the sunset and sea colours.
