Extended Z Fold Card with the Gilded Autumn Suite

extended z fold with gilded autumn suite

As I continue to design for my September Online Technique Class, I have to say that I am totally in love with this Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper. The colours and designs along with the metallic foiling are just exquisite and bring fall to life so well.

Here is the palette we're talking about:

I also wanted a technique to work with and teach the class, so I picked an extended Z Fold card, which uses a heavy weight of DSP to lengthen the folds in a regular Z Fold card to give you something with more space, but which still fits in a regular sized envelope for a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card. I watched Meg Loven's great tutorial on this fancy fold and used the basic construction, then went my own way. Thanks, Meg!

For this card, I also made use of the Brushed Metallic cardstock that is part of the same Gilded Autumn Suite, the Plaid Tidings 6"X6" DSP found on page 57 of the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue and both the Autumn Essentials and Gathered Leaves Dies.

Take a closer look at the card that will be the second sample for the class that will take place through Facebook Live/YouTube on Sept. 15th.

Country Home Jar of Flowers for As You See It Challenges

country home jar of flowers

Welcome back to another Friday blog entry for As You See It Challenges, and this week it's a colour challenge that I came up with.  Here is the challenge banner:

challenge 232

It's a bit of an unusual combination which looks great in the photo but can be a bit challenging to work into a stamping project. I learned early on that if you have a palette of intense colours, using a lot of white tones them down quite nicely! It's definitely a sunflower palette though as you'll see if you head over to the As You See It Blog and look at all the Design Team samples!

Here's what I did with it:

country home jar of flowers

  • I started with a card base of Thick Whisper White cardstock and added a panel of Bermuda Bay, 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".
  • Then I took a piece of ordinary Whisper White cardstock and embossed it using the Pinewoods Planks 3D Embossing Folder and my new Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine (which works like an absolute dream, by the way!).
  • On plain Whisper White cardstock I stamped the milk can from the Country Home stamp set in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and added bits of colour from the Light Cajun Craze and Light Bermuda Bay Stampin' Blends markers from their respective Combos. I wanted the milk can to look slightly rusty white.
  • I then stamped one "floral arrangement" from Country Home stamp set (the one with the bulrushes) and one from the Jar of Flowers stamp set (the one with the sunflowers), both using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I coloured the two bouquets in (at least the parts I wanted to use) using the Cajun Craze Combo, the Bermuda Bay Combo and the Mango Melody Combo (which I substituted for Crushed Curry, since there isn't a Blends Combo in that colour). I then fussy cut the parts I wanted of the two arrangements and built them up on the bulrush base image using glue dots and some Dimensionals. Once added to the milk can, this image can be added to the card front using Dimensionals, leaving room for the sentiment below.
  • Save room for the sentiment from the Autumn Greetings stamp set stamped in Cajun Craze on a strip of Whisper White cardstock, which is then adhered to the card front below the image.
  • The final touch are some leftover retired Bermuda Bay rhinestones from the Holiday collection.
Pop on over to the Challenge Blog to see what the other DT members did with these colours.

Autumn Greetings Bundle

autumn greetigns bundle

It's not just Christmas sets that come in the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue, just in case that's what you were thinking. It encompasses holidays from Thanksgiving, Halloween, all the way through to Valentine's Day. So I wanted to show you some other sets to be aware of besides the wonderful Christmas products. The one I'm going to share with you today is the *Autumn Greetings Bundle. It includes the *Autumn Greetings stamp set and the coordinating *Autumn Essentials dies. Truth be told, I actually got this bundle mostly for the dies, but the stamp set is kind of unique as well.

*These new products are not yet available for sale until the 2020 Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue starts Aug. 4/20.

Take a closer look at what I did with that unique background image from the *Autumn Greetings stamp set:

  • I don't know if you can tell in this photo, but I've embossed the background image in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder on the Crumb Cake cardstock panel mounted on the Crumb Cake card base. (Crumb Cake is Stampin' Up!'s name for Kraft cardstock.) It really shines warmly when the light hits it right.
  • I die cut the pumpkins and grasses from different coloured cardstock, including Pumpkin Pie, Mango Melody, Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, Crumb Cake and So Saffron, using the dies from the *Autumn Essentials dies.
  • The sentiment, which is also from the *Autumn Greetings stamp set, was stamped on Mango Melody with Crumb Cake ink and edged with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder after the edges were rubbed with Versamark ink.
  • The embellishments are the *Copper 1/8" Grosgrain Ribbon from the *Basket Weave & Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack and a couple of *Acorn Trinkets.
*These new products are not yet available for sale until the 2020 Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue starts Aug. 4/20.
