Extended Z Fold Card with the Gilded Autumn Suite

As I continue to design for my September Online Technique Class, I have to say that I am totally in love with this Gilded Autumn Specialty Designer Series Paper. The colours and designs along with the metallic foiling are just exquisite and bring fall to life so well.

Here is the palette we're talking about:

Crumb Cake

Early Espresso

Very Vanilla

I also wanted a technique to work with and teach the class, so I picked an extended Z Fold card, which uses a heavy weight of DSP to lengthen the folds in a regular Z Fold card to give you something with more space, but which still fits in a regular sized envelope for a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card. I watched Meg Loven's great tutorial on this fancy fold and used the basic construction, then went my own way. Thanks, Meg!

For this card, I also made use of the Brushed Metallic cardstock that is part of the same Gilded Autumn Suite, the Plaid Tidings 6"X6" DSP found on page 57 of the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue and both the Autumn Essentials and Gathered Leaves Dies.

Gilded Autumn Illuminated Easel Card

Ever made a card that looked good enough to be a centerpiece on your Thanksgiving table? Well, if you added some extra accessories, the card I'm featuring today could work back to back with it's twin as an eye-catching focus of your festive table. This fancy fold is called an illuminated easel card because you can use some battery operated votive candles behind the front panel and have them shine through, adding warmth to the rusts and golds and browns of the Gilded Autumn Suite elements.

This is what it looks like in full light. It's one of the cards that I will be featuring in my up-coming September Online Technique Class. Even though all the die cuts will all be done for you, I will still show how to create one of these illuminated easel cards from scratch so that you can do it yourself. You'll be able to put two of these together. The stamp set I used was Gather Together, and one of the options for registrations for my Online Class, if you live anywhere in Canada, will be to purchase that stamp set so you can stamp the same sentiments. Of course, you have the option to use your own choice of stamp sets that you already own.

The main panel in the middle of the card front is made of vellum and covers an opening that goes right through the card to the back page. The Designer Series Paper (DSP) covering the panels comes from the Gilded Autumn Specialty DSP, which is a beautiful set and found in the Aug/Dec Mini Catalogue on page 45.

The metallic leaves and backing are made from the Copper Brushed Metallic 12" x 12" Cardstock that you find also on page 45, part of the same suite.

The sentiment and image on the vellum are from the Gather Together stamp set and are embossed on the vellum using Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. I was mightily tempted to use Copper embossing powder, but Stampin' Up! doesn't sell it any more so I stuck with gold and there is gold foil on the paper along with the copper foil, so it works.

The Gathered Leaves Dies created those great embossed leaf die cuts on the card front. Those dies are the coordinating dies for the Gather Together stamp set and will be included in another of the options for Class Registration.

The card folds flat in case you want to mail it to someone, but they would have to get their own votives then as they wouldn't fit into the envelope as well.

Last week, I did a video review of the new Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine that I wanted to share with you:

We take the number of members that we get and hold the club for that many months (6 members = 6 months) We also take the cost of the machine plus tax and shipping and divide it by the number of members ($200.82 divided by 6 = $33.47) Each member pays $33.47 per month and each month one member gets their Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, in the order that they signed up for the club. By the end of the 6 months, everyone has their machine. Each person must commit to the 6 month duration of the club, until everyone has their machine.  If the members wanted, we could do some projects each month requiring die cutting or embossing that I would have to do for them but I could demonstrate for them on line, and they could assemble.

Autumn Sampler with Sunflowers, Autumn Essentials and Gathered Leaves Dies

I've created samplers for every season except autumn (Here are some of my other seasonal samplers: Summer, Spring, Winter) and I decided it was time to change that today. I wanted to use dies as much as possible so that if I decided to use it as a class I would be able to put a card kit together. I made use of a couple of the current Designer Series Paper packages and some great sentiments that are mostly part of the stamp sets I was using. 

Here's a closer look:

• It's probably better to start in the upper left corner and take you around the sampler in a clockwise direction. The top corner is a 4 5/8" square and the top layer is covered with paper from the In Good Taste DSP pack. On it I have die cut two different sunflowers, one from Mango Melody for the outline and So Saffron for the background, and the other from Cinnamon Cider for the outline and Crumb Cake for the background. The leaves are Old Olive, and the centres are Early Espresso.
• The rectangle in the upper right is 5 5/8" x 1 7/8" and is covered with some of the World of Good Specialty DSP. I stamped the sentiment from Country Home stamp set right on it with Early Espresso ink and added a die cut grass in Gray Granite from the Sunflowers Dies.

• For the next two small 2 1/8" squares, I used more of the World of Good DSP for one and the Copper Brushed Metallic Cardstock embossed with the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder for the other. On the left square I added several grasses die cut using the Autumn Essential Dies and tied in a bundle with the Honey Bee Gingham Ribbon. On the right die I added a Cinnamon Cider pumpkin outline from the Autumn Essential dies.

• On the bottom right the four small squares have a) a small stamped sunflower,  from the Sunflower Celebrations, coloured with Stampin' Blends, with a bow from Honey Bee Gingham Ribbon b) More of the World of Good DSP, with a sentiment  and image from Gather Together on it.        c) Very Vanilla with a leaf image from Positive Thoughts, stamped in Mango Melody with a little Cajun Craze tapped around the edges using a sponge dauber right to the stamp and d) more In Good Taste DSP with a sentiment from Beautiful Moments stamped in Early Espresso and a little knot in the Honey Bee Gingham Ribbon.
• The rectangle panel is also done with the In Good Taste DSP, and it has several pumpkins from Autumn Essential Dies on it.

The rectangular panel in the bottom left is covered with the Copper Brushed Metallic cardstock, embossed using the Tin Tile 3D Embossing Folder. On top of that is the Country Home images stamped in Memento ink and coloured using Stampin' Blends markers.

All around the sampler are leaves in So Saffron, Cajun Craze and Old Olive die cut using the Gathered Leaves dies!

I can hardly wait to put it in my Shadow Box and display it!
