Lasting Lily on a Bad Day

It's been another one of those days - those days where the cardstock won't cut straight, where you smudge ink from an unknown source somewhere on your fingers just as you're finishing up your project, where you are gluing your layers together and they won't go on straight the first time no matter how carefully you try, and even using the Stamparatus, the mat moves the paper a smidge and you get a slight edge. I couldn't believe it! It took four attempts to finally get one I could use and even that wasn't perfect, but I'd had enough! I liked the design, but holy moly - the execution was a killer.  (See what I did there? lol)

And let me be clear - it was NOT the stamps' fault. The klutziness was all with me. Do you ever have days like that? Where you begin to wonder if your thumbs are, indeed, opposable? Anyway, the stamp set I want to feature today is from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure and it's called Lasting Lily. As you may have guessed, it's a DistINKtive stamp set, meaning that the stamp gives different opacities of ink due to the surface composition. It's also a Level 2 Sale-A-Bration reward that you can earn with a $120 purchase.

• I started with a watercolour wash on Shimmery White cardstock using Soft Sea Foam and an Aqua Painter, then a second layer of Mossy Meadow, drying in between with the Heat Tool.
• I stamped the stems and leaves using Mossy Meadow and regular acrylic blocks with the paper on a Stampin' Pierce Mat.
• I used the Stamparatus to stamp the lilies themselves in Highland Heather. The Stamparatus did a good job with the DistINKtive aspect of the stamps, letting you see the details of the image clearly, even when needy more than one stamping.
• I cut down the panel when I was done, to 2 3/4" x 4" so that you could see the texture from the Basket Weave Dynamic Embossing Folder in Crumb Cake cardstock behind it.
• The sentiment, also from the Lasting Lily stamp set, is die cut with one of the Stitched Label Framelits. Old Olive Linen Thread creates the small bow to finish off the card.
• The card base is Gorgeous Grape with the next panel Whisper White.

Lemon Zest for As You See It Challenges

This week at As You See It, the challenge is a Theme Challenge! And the theme this time is "Fresh".

Now, I don't know what you think of when you think "Fresh", but the first thing that came to my mind was "Lemony Fresh" or "Citrus Fresh".  I've been a huge citrus fruit fan all my life. I still remember picking through the Lifesavers Candy Rolls, looking for an orange, lemon or lime one. My favourite flavour of all is lime and I just equate citrus with fresh, so naturally I pulled out my Lemon Zest stamp set when it came time to design for this Challenge. Take a closer look:

• I love that the new Brights and In Colours worked so well with this card (as well as one Regal colour). I used Lemon Lime Twist on the limes, Pineapple Punch on the Lemons (Such a gorgeous yellow!) Pumpkin Pie on the orange and Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight on the grapefruit.
• The 1 3/4" Circle Punch is perfect for the citrus slices, and the whole lemons or limes and the leaves can be punched with the Lemon Builder Punch. I find that it's sometimes much easier to separate all the images by cutting them apart before punching them with the builder punches because it's almost impossible to stamp them the way they line up in the punch without using a template. (Which is easy enough to do really, if you want to bother.)
• A strip of Crumb Cake embossed with the Basket Weave Dynamic Embossing Folder makes a great backdrop for the fruit.
• I love the sentiments for this set and, since this is a birthday card, I picked two that I thought would be appropriate, especially since this person is on a cruise right now! The Layering Squares and Layering Circles Framelits were a great help in die cutting and layering these sentiments.
• Don't you love that little snippet of Lemon Lime Twist Ruffled Ribbon? So perfect for this card. I thought about sequins, but felt the card had enough going on!
