70th Birthday Card Using Fine Art Floral Suite

70th birthday card using fine art floral suite 1

I needed a 70th Birthday Card today for a lady who loves flowers, especially red ones and the first thing that came to mind was the beautiful Poppy Parade coloured blooms from the Fine Art Floral Suite. I had a sheet of the Golden Garden Designer Specialty Acetate all lined up with one of the beautiful floral designs in Poppy Parade, so I just needed to make sure they were still aligned properly and then cut a 4" x 5 1/4" panel for the card front for my Poppy Parade card base.

I almost had my card right there! To find out what else I did with it, read on:

  • I stamped one of the smaller floral design from the Art Gallery stamp set that is part of this suite on some Basic White cardstock with Poppy Parade and Old Olive for the leaves (which die cutting basically eliminated).
  • I did the second step of the 2 Step Stamping using Versamark and added Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set it.
  • Using the Family Party stamp set I stamped the "70th" in Versamark ink and heat embossed it in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and did the same with the sentiment from Butterfly Wishes.
  • I die cut the whole thing with the largest label from the Tasteful Labels dies. (Yes, I used it again! It's becoming my most used die set very rapidly!!) and die cut the same shape in Poppy Parade cardstock to use behind as a backing. I just cut it in half horizontally and adhered each half separately to the top and bottom of the label.
  • My embellishment is a bow in the gold trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack.
It's quick but classy looking and one that anyone could put together easily, thanks to the beautiful DSP and Acetate overlay.

Honey Bee Bundle for As You See It Challenges

I am almost all finished my preparations for my event on Saturday, my One Day Craft Crop to Aid Refugees. I had to work to squeeze in my As You See It Challenge card for the new challenge this morning. It's a Fill in the Blank Challenge, which means you have to fill in the blank to finish a sentence, and then make your card based on how you filled in the blank. Here's the Challenge Banner, with the idea concocted by Design Team Member, Joanne James!

I decided to fill in the blanks with the words, My favourite type of card to send is birthday cards for my grandkids.

The next grandchild to have a birthday in my family is Cedar and she will be turning six years old in May. I asked her mom, my daughter Kristen, what stamp set she would like and she chose either the Honey Bee set from the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue or the carried over Nature's Beauty set from the Holiday Catalogue. I chose the Honey Bee set, but now I see that the bundle is not orderable for awhile until the dies are available again. The coordinating paper I used was a Sale-A-Bration reward, but that is sold out now - The Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper. It is possible that some of our supplies may be impacted in the next while by the Corona virus crisis, as China manufactures a lot of our products except for our stamps themselves.

Anyway, without further ado, here is my card:

  • The Highland Heather card base echoes the colouring I did on the two embossed flowers on either side of the hive. They were embossed with Black Stampin' Emboss Powder on Whisper White cardstock and die cut with the Detailed Bee dies.
  • The hive was embossed with Gold on Whisper White and die cut, while the sentiment and the bees themselves were embossed in Black on Gold Foil and die cut with the same coordination set.
  • The striped background paper and the hexagon background panel are both from the Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper that you can no longer get. In fact, the only way you can get it now, is to earn an invite to my exclusive Celebrate Sale-A-Bration Party. To do that you have to have earned at least one Sale-A-Bration reward from me, during the Sale-A-Bration period. I usually hold it in April, with lots of SAB rewards as door prizes. The date may have to be postponed depending on the Covid-19 crisis, but it will still happen, and I do have a pack of that paper to give away to one lucky recipient!
  • I used the Family Party stamp set for the sentiment at the top.
I created another version of this card first using a different design from the same pack of paper for the background, but I realized I didn't like it and made a different design at the last minute for the challenge.  It was just too busy for my liking. What do you think:

Well, have a great weekend! I'll hopefully have lots of things to share with you on Monday after the Craft Crop!

Birthday Cards for Grandsons and New Video Releases from Stampin' Up!

January is one of those minor birthday months in our family. Next week it's my own birthday and on either side of my birthday falls two of my grandsons' birthdays. I also have two nieces with birthdays this month! So yay, January! But, I like to think my grandkids look forward to Grandma's birthday cards almost as much as they look forward to their birthday presents....Well maybe half as much?....a quarter? Well they don't throw them out anyway! They often tell me what they want on their cards and, if it's not too complicated, I try to comply.

My eight year old grandson wanted a fox on his card, and since we have Nature's Beauty stamp set carrying over, that's the stamp set I used to make his with:

  • Nature's Beauty stamp set, Woven Threads Designer Series Paper, and Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends Combo pack were the main elements of this card with some Memento Black ink for the stamping and a little light Pool Party Stampin' Blends to highlight the snow. It came together really quickly.
  • The sentiments were from Itty Bitty Birthday and Family Party.

My 5 year old grandson loves Super Mario and owls, but I didn't have any good owl stamps so I decided on a punch art version of Super Mario:

  • I'm not going into all the punches I used for this card, but they were mostly circle punches and some retired oval punches, and I had to throw a couple of the Layering Circles Dies to get the larger sizes and the scallops I needed for the mustache and the sideburns and hair. The ovals were the ears and tongue. The flesh coloured (Petal Pink) pieces were sponged all the way around for depth and some Dimensionals used for the same reason. I had to do the M on the hat by hand.
With the new Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue out now, there are many new product videos put out by Stampin' Up! So I'd like to share a few with you today.

The first one I want to share with you gives you the TOTAL lowdown on the Peaceful Poppies' Suite, and there is a LOT to talk about! Take it away, Holly:

In this next video, just in time to start crafting Valentine cards, Erica introduces the From My Heart Suite:

And finally, Tanner introduces us to the Tropical Oasis Bundle:
