70th Birthday Card Using Fine Art Floral Suite

70th birthday card using fine art floral suite 1

I needed a 70th Birthday Card today for a lady who loves flowers, especially red ones and the first thing that came to mind was the beautiful Poppy Parade coloured blooms from the Fine Art Floral Suite. I had a sheet of the Golden Garden Designer Specialty Acetate all lined up with one of the beautiful floral designs in Poppy Parade, so I just needed to make sure they were still aligned properly and then cut a 4" x 5 1/4" panel for the card front for my Poppy Parade card base.

I almost had my card right there! To find out what else I did with it, read on:

  • I stamped one of the smaller floral design from the Art Gallery stamp set that is part of this suite on some Basic White cardstock with Poppy Parade and Old Olive for the leaves (which die cutting basically eliminated).
  • I did the second step of the 2 Step Stamping using Versamark and added Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set it.
  • Using the Family Party stamp set I stamped the "70th" in Versamark ink and heat embossed it in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and did the same with the sentiment from Butterfly Wishes.
  • I die cut the whole thing with the largest label from the Tasteful Labels dies. (Yes, I used it again! It's becoming my most used die set very rapidly!!) and die cut the same shape in Poppy Parade cardstock to use behind as a backing. I just cut it in half horizontally and adhered each half separately to the top and bottom of the label.
  • My embellishment is a bow in the gold trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack.
It's quick but classy looking and one that anyone could put together easily, thanks to the beautiful DSP and Acetate overlay.

Butterfly Wishes for As You See It Challenge #236

butterfly wishes for aysi 236 1

It's another As You See It Challenge Friday and this time we are doing a Speed Stamping Challenge with the theme of Butterflies. Stampin' Up! has some really nice stamp sets with butterfly images, I just had to decide ahead of time how I wanted to display them.

What came to mind was a sponged strip near the top of the card, masked by two torn strip edges of paper. Then I intended to collage stamp my butterflies over top of the sponged strip.

  • I should have taken into account how tricky these particular DistINKtive stamps were to get a good image, because even though I did a test stamp first on scrap paper, I didn't get a good image when I tried to stamp it again on the sponged strip.
  • So scrambling like crazy, I stamped the two butterflies again on Whisper White cardstock, and with no punch or die available, fussy cut both of them. Then I mounted them with dimensionals over the previous images, but was able to use the antennae of the previously stamped images, instead of having to fussy cut them out.
  • The three ink colours that I sponged the strip at the top with were: Pool Party, Pear Pizzazz and So Saffron.
  • The butterflies are stamped in Mango Melody and Pool Party.
  • I added some bocca dots effects using the stamp from the Beauty Abounds stamp set inked up in Pear Pizzazz.
  • The sentiment is from Butterfly Wishes and was stamped in Pool Party.

Butterfly Wishes for As You See It Challenges

butterfly wishes for as you see it challenges

Hey, there! Happy Friday! It's time for another new As You See It Challenge. This week it's another Recipe Challenges. This one involves circles, punches or diecuts, patterned paper, a butterfly and a birthday sentiment. Here's the challenge banner:

I was flying by the seat of my pants for a bit, just experimenting. I wanted a fall feeling for my card, so I thought about a monarch butterfly because of the colours. I thought the DistINKtive set Butterfly Wishes would have a good monarch butterfly image.

Then, again for the colours, I thought about both the Artistry Blooms and Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Papers for the backgrounds and some punched circles. Then I realized that some of the punched circles could be sunflowers, so I punched some out from the Flowers for Every Season DSP and stamped some using the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set. Those were die cut using the Layering Circles Dies.

Anyway, what I ended up with is kind of unusual, but I kind of like the results! I hope you like it, too! Not my usual kind of card, but that's the beauty of a challenge! It gets you doing things out of the ordinary.

If you've been thinking about joining the Stampin' Up! family, September is a great month to do it! Stampin' Up! has a Starter Kit promotion running during the whole month of September and it's a different one! If you purchase the Starter Kit which is $135 CAD for $165 worth of your choice of current Stampin' Up! products with no shipping (a screaming every day deal!), during September, you'll also get, at no extra charge, two extra stamp sets, precut cardstock packs to make 16 cards, embellishments and downloadable instructions for making 4 different designs!

That way you can get all your friends and acquaintances stamping right away (I can show you how to do it online!) and that could net you a couple of customers to help you maintain the minimum sales needed to keep your demo status and to be the basis for starting your business should you want to!
