Convention 2013 and a Guest Stamper

Okay, I gave you a run-down play by play from Salt Lake City during Stampin' Up Convention 2013, but I didn't have many photos for you, especially my big moment on stage for earning Rising Star, so I wanted to fill in the gaps a little now that I'm home and have access to the others' photos.

My youngest daughter, Jaimie MacGibbon,  visited with us for a couple of days last week and she created a card for us while she was here.  I loved it so much that I used it for my Big Shot Club as a card project and I wanted to share it with you here:

• I love her colour choices and that she heat embossed the Chalk Talk image in white Stampin' Emboss powder!
• I also love the texture she has created using the Chevron Embossing folder on the Whisper White panel and the doily and the linen thread.
• I made a sample for my class and also embossed the Pool Party flag with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing folder!  
• The Pistachio Pudding DSP is from the Designer Series Paper Stacks - In Colours 2013/15.

Here is the final card that I have to show you this week, designed by Jaimie MacGibbon:

I just love the clean and simple look of this card, with the focal point being the pinwheel design Jaimie has created using one of the Tea for Two series papers and cutting out the 4 of the triangular shapes and popping them up on dimensionals.  It's just so effective!  The two bright matte panels behind the Whisper White are toned by the Crumb Cake neutral and the little bit of Pool Party Baker's Twine adds a perfect finishing touch!  Hard to tell from the photo the ink colour of the sentiment from the Oh, Hello stamp set, but the bold look suits the card so well.

Jaimie MacGibbon - Day 2

Welcome back to Jaimie MacGibbon Week here at Playing with Papercrafting.  Some things to note about Jaimie:

1. She was a talented dancer during her high school years and spent two years at the National Ballet School in Toronto.
2. She has a great eye for colour and design as you can see on her blog.
3. She is the mom of a wonderful little boy named Parker.  and
4. She is loving small town life in the the little BC community where she and her hubby, Pat, moved last fall!
5. Oh, yes, and when she was a baby she had the chubbiest little feet you ever saw - little balls with the toes sticking out! 

Here is another card Jaimie recently designed:

Like yesterday's sample, Jaimie made good use out of the Tea for Two Designer Series paper for this card.  She added the Mason Jar from Perfectly Preserved, a stamp set from the Fall Holiday Mini Catalogue, that has been carried over until June 1.  There are framelits to match this set, but Jaimie does not yet have a Big Shot to use them with, so she hand cut it out, added some linen thread and some adorable hand cut hearts from a variety of paper!

The sentiment is from the stamp set of the same name, Oh, Hello and it looks perfect stamped in Midnight Muse contrasting with the Calypso Coral polka dot paper behind the flag.  She's matted all of it with some Summer Starfruit or So Saffron card stock.  I can't quite tell which it is from the photo.  Maybe she'll enlighten us! But whichever it is, it looks perfect for the other colours on the card.

Guest Stamper - Jaimie MacGibbon

This week, I'm so happy to be sharing with you the work of one of my favourite stampers, Jaimie MacGibbon !  (The fact that she is my daughter has nothing to do with my estimation of her work!  Make sure you leave a comment to let her know how awesome she is!)  She is a hobbyist on a limited budget, but you would never know it by the quality of her cards.  She is very resourceful, both as a stamper and a decorator.  In fact, you should check out her blog, At Home, if you like creating beautiful spaces with a tiny cash outlay.

Here's the first card I want to share with you:

I love Jaimie's choice of paper here.  The Tea for Two Designer Series paper deserves star billing on this card, and Jaimie has paired it up just right with Pool Party and Sahara Sand card stock.  She loves using the Delicate Details Lace tape, and it is the perfect touch on this whimsical Designer Paper.  The Naturals Designer Button balances the Teeny Tiny Wishes sentiment perfectly.

For some reason, it makes me think of the late Victorian era, in the late 1800's.  You don't need to have a lot of tools and equipment to make this card.  You can achieve very pleasing designs with very little in the way of supplies.  

Won't you leave a comment, so she knows it's not just her mother who enjoys her work?  She thinks I'm biased for some reason!

By the way, this is a photo of her with her little family:

-dressed for the part of a frontier Victorian family!  That's my oldest grandson, Parker, sitting on her lap, and  my son-in-law, Pat behind her!
