Rogues Gallery of Retiring Products

As you know, I am holidaying up in northern BC with my middle daughter, Kristen and her family. We came up to celebrate my only granddaughter's First Birthday!  This is the little lady here, bedecked in dandelions as could only be expected for the daughter of my dandelion loving offspring! (See this post.)

And here she is again! Quite a contrast as she sheds the niceties and digs into her birthday chocolate cake with gusto!

Since I have no access to my new catalogue pre-order goodies, I am concentrating on sharing some of the retiring products from the 2014 - 15 Annual Catalogue as a public service, to make sure you don't miss out on something that you really wanted, but hadn't had an opportunity to order yet. Chalk Talk Meets Wintertime for Pals Paper Arts

I needed one more design with the Chalk Talk stamp set for my December Stamp of the Month Online Club and I wanted to participate in the latest Pals Paper Arts Challenge so I added the Wintertime stamp set and this is what resulted.  Since it's a bit late for Christmas cards now, but everybody is going to need Thank You cards pretty soon, that's the direction I headed in. You know, to thank Aunt Gladys for the amazing (?) Christmas sweater she sent this year. If you score big time with your beautiful thank you cards, your recipients are going to be extra stoked about giving you a gift on the next occasion because they know their gift was appreciated!  It's a win/win situation!

Here is the colour palette for Pals Paper Arts Challenge #231:

As you can see, it's a monochromatic colour scheme - right up my alley, especially the three colours they chose!

• Once again, I don't want to give away too many details, as you will receive a step-by-step photo tutorials if you join my December Stamp of the Month Online Club, along with 3 card samples (see below) and the clear mount version of Chalk Talk. Chalk Talk is a very useful stamp set, and when you buy the matching framelits, it becomes even more versatile.
• I inked up the Wintertime stamp set in Bermuda Bay ink and stamped the entire image before die cutting it with the Top Note Bigz Die.  The center sentiment is just perfectly sized to be hidden by the Chalk Talk sentiment and backing.
• I heat embossed the middle sentiment with Pool Party Stampin' Emboss Powder and die cut it with the matching framelit, but because I wanted another Pool Party layer beneath it, I shortened it by passing it through the Big Shot again with the same framelit, only adjusted it to make it shorter.  I also used my Stampin' Trimmer to make it a bit narrower.

So December's Stamp of the Month Online Club is ready to go again.  As mentioned, the Stamp of the Month is Chalk Talk and here are the three card samples you will receive, along with the clear mount stamp set, and three step-by-step photo tutorials, including a list of materials needed plus all measurements.

More Chalk Talk for December Stamp of the Month Online Club

I'm busy designing for my December Stamp of the Month Online Club and the stamp Set for this month is Chalk Talk.  It's been a favourite of mine for a couple of years now and I know you'll like it because it is so versatile. And because it's designed for a chalkboard technique, I think it will be absolutely amazing with the new Chalk Inks that Stampin' Up! will be featuring in the new Occasions Catalogue.  I haven't ordered them yet, but they are at the top of my wish list, so it won't be long!

I used the MOJO Monday sketch challenge for the layout:

And I went to my Pinterest board on Colour Palettes to choose a colour scheme:

I put it all together and Voila!

• I love the combination of Smoky Slate with bright colours.  Here I used Strawberry Slush and Daffodil Delight!
• The Strawberry Slush Designer Series Paper is from All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack. This is another great deal for only $8.50 and you get 48 sheets all together and 12 double-sided designs.
• The Argyle Embossing Folder seemed the most appropriate for this design.  I had originally used another Daffodil Delight design from All Abloom, but there was too much white in that design and I felt the need for more intense colour.
• The sentiment and the label behind it are stamped with images from Chalk Talk and die cut with the matching framelits. You can bundle the stamp set and the framelits and save 15%!  Let me know, if you want the Stamp of the Month this month, if you'd like to increase the price and get the framelits as well.

Fun with Burlap for Freshly Made Sketches

Whew!  I just finished cutting 120 projects for my second Christmas Stamper's Dozen.  And after a week away in the Fort, it was all done within two days!  I don't mind saying that I'm beat!  So this will be a shorter than usual post.  I hope you don't mind.  I wanted another Fun with Burlap design for my Technique Nights later this week and so I used the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge for this week as well as the Colour Throwdown swatch for inspiration.

Freshly Made Sketches Challenge 155 is a fairly clean looking design.  I hope I didn't add too much, but I really like the card I came up with.

And here is the interesting colour palette from Colour Throwdown Challenge #311 this week:

I don't know if I would have ever come up with this combo on my own, but I like the combinations on my card.  I used Crumb Cake (and Burlap Ribbon), Old Olive, Pool Party, Smoky Slate and Basic Gray.

• Would you believe that this is the first time I can recall using my Chevron Border Punch as a border punch?  I wanted to add the burlap ribbon behind it for an interesting background trick.  I like the way it softens the rustic look of the burlap.
• I used the Scallop Tag Topper Punch for the Crumb Cake tag.  On it, I stamped the image from Chalk Talk Stamp set in Basic Gray.  I then used Old Olive ink to stamp the sentiment from Chalk Talk on Smoky Slate and punched it out with the Extra Large Oval punch.  Both the sentiment and the tag are mounted using Stampin' Dimensionals for some 3D variety.
• I added a Tea Lace Paper Doily underneath for a softer, more eclectic look, and the punched out chevrons for an accent, because I'm thrifty like that. (Waste not, want not, as my mother used to say!)  The button is Island Indigo, but it goes so well with the design as a darker shade of the aqua.
• I was trying to create burlap flowers with the burlap ribbon, but it is so thick and stiff that it is too hard to manipulate and die cut, so I'll stick with backgrounds and die cuts for now until I get some thinner burlap material.
