Tranquil Tulips for Fab Friday

I've been dying to play with one of the Host stamp sets that I earned with my pre-order. It's called Tranquil Tulips* and it creates some beautiful images. Host sets can only be earned with Stampin' Rewards, so you would either need to host a party or workshop and earn rewards from all the orders placed, or you would need to join my Stamp Club, where one month out of the twelve, you would receive the Stampin' Rewards from all the orders placed for the Club Order. Either way, Host sets are priced lower than normal so that you can get the most out of your Stampin' Rewards dollars!

I decided to play along with the colour challenge at Fab Friday this week:

This is a fairly intense colour combination, so a lot of white space is needed to make it work. I made my tulips three-dimensional, by stamping the darker step of the the 2 step stamping separately as well as with the lighter section. I fussy cut it and that way, I was able to get the pure white lines in and around it. Then I mounted it over the corresponding area using dimensionals. Here's a closer look:

• I used Rich Razzleberry for the larger tulip and Calypso Coral for the two smaller ones. The Dapper Denim, I reserved for the card base and backing for the horizontal coral piece and the sentiment.
• I used the Layering Oval Framelits to die cut the oval for the main image first before stamping it. The scalloped backing is also from the Layering Ovals Framelits, but since there is no Scallop Oval Framelit large enough for the largest regular oval framelit, I die cut two of the largest ones and mounted them on the back of the Whisper White Oval off-setting them at the top and the bottom.
• The sentiment is a farewell salute to one of my all time favourite stamp sets, which I just might refuse to get rid of: Wetlands! I love the font on all the sentiments and would keep it just for them!

So Detailed Thinlits for Freshly Made Sketches

The beauty and elegance of some of the new Stampin' Up! products in our Occasions Catalogue is beyond compare really and I had a brain wave when I was planning my card yesterday. I wanted to use one of my detailed dies and then emboss the die cut with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder (or any metallic embossing powder for that matter). Then I saw the latest Freshly Made Sketches' Challenge for this week and I knew which one I wanted to use: Here's the layout:

It was perfect for the So Detailed Thinlit Dies and I could just see the beautiful Falling in Love Designer Series Paper behind it! Then I had to find some sentiments to fit the die cuts and that turned out to be a difficult task. You see, my sister's best friend, since she was in high school 48 years ago, passed away yesterday, and I wanted to make a sympathy card for her. I turned to the Wetlands stamp set and the Flourishing Phrases set for the sentiments.

• After die cutting the center band, I embossed the Thinking of You sentiment on the center section. I had to be very careful with it because it just fits! Then I pressed the intricately die cut parts into the Versamark ink and sprinkled on more Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder, using a paint brush to brush away any powder that was too heavily concentrated. Then I heat set it with the Heat Tool. Likewise, I embossed the sentiment at the bottom of the Very Vanilla panel in gold.
• I centered the die cut panel on a piece of the Falling In Love Designer Series Paper, as wide as the Very Vanilla panel but shorter and glued both pieces onto the card front of Sahara Sand.
•  I used the new Very Vanilla 1/4" Satin Ribbon to tie a small bow to add to card front as well.

Petals and Paisleys with Vintage Leaves

You can feel the chill! Fall is definitely in the air. I think it's my favourite season. I love the warm colours and and cool freshness of the air. I love the harvests and the delicious foods we make out of them. I love getting out the sweaters and long sleeves again. It's such a cozy feeling. But the glory is so brief and then we're in to the  dreariness of winter. I wish I could learn to embrace that season, too! Oh, well. The one good thing about time passing more quickly as we get older is that our not so favourite times pass more quickly, too! Anyway, my card today reflects the coming of fall.

It takes some new products from the Holiday Catalogue and marries them with some old favourites from the Annual Catalogue for a warm autumn look. I used the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper and the Cable Knit Dynamic Embossing Folder from the Holiday Catalogue and added the Vintage Leaves stamp set, Wetlands stamp set, Lots of Labels Framelits and Copper Embossing Powder from the Annual Catalogue.

• I love this design from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper, with its delicate lines of Mint Macaron amongst the rich Cajun Craze! So perfect for autumn cards. There are so many other rich designs in the set as well.
• I wanted lots of texture on this card and achieved that using the Cable Knit Dynamic Embossing Folder as a background to the leaves. There are a couple of things you need to know before you use this new product, which is also relatively new in the crafting world, so I made a quick video for my newsletter to explain how to use it. I'll share it with you here as well.

               

• I love the richness of the Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and here it gave a perfect outline for the Vintage Leaves, nice and dark, but shiny. These were die cut with the Leaflet Framelits.
• The burlap ribbon adds the texture I wanted for this card and I added some pleats at the end, most of which I held in place with...gasp!!...staples. The last one I used glue dots. I'm still not quite ready for "in your face staples", but I'm working on it.
