September Paper Pumpkin

So, last week my favourite monthly delivery arrived at my door - my Paper Pumpkin!

I was excited to see what project was inside, because I am planning to share it with my customers in a new "Paper Pumpkin Club"!  I ordered some extra kits and I wanted to come up with some innovative alternative designs.

When I opened it, I was a bit disappointed at first, because I wasn't fond of the original elements.  I was wishing I had chosen August's Paper Pumpkin Projects to start the club, but I took everything out and started playing with it, and before long, I had come up with some designs that I loved!  And I hope my customers will love them too and come out to play with me!

I'll show you the intended design from Stampin' Up first.

I think the little file folder shapes are really cute!  The sentiment is certainly real!  I see and hear Wahoo! all over the place these days!  The buttons and the chevrons are great, too.  I didn't get that radar screen grid on the card base at first, and I wasn't in love with the colors- Midnight Muse, Pear Pizzazz (I think) and Calypso Coral.  But then I experimented and came up with this design:

  • For this one I stuck with Calypso Coral and Pear Pizzazz and I liked that combo better.
  • I added some stains and scratches from Gorgeous Grunge! (You really need that set if you don't have it yet!)
  • I put a large Rhinestone Basic Jewel in the center of the bullseye and added a couple of Calypso Coral Candy Dots on the tab of the file folder.
Here's what I used in addition to the Paper Pumpkin supplies:
Stamps:  Gorgeous Grunge (w130514; c130517)
Ink:  Classic Stamp Pads in Calypso Coral (126983) and Pear Pizzazz (131180)
Accessories:  Large Rhinestone Basic Jewels (129324); Subtles Collection Candy Dots (130933)

Then, I indulged my fantasy that the radar screen thingy looked like a spider's web:
  • That spider?  It's the Naturals Designer Button from the kit!  I rubbed the back of it on a VersaMark Ink pad and immersed it in Black Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set it.  I had a few Googly Eyes left over from last year, so I added those and used Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon strips to make the legs.
  • I added some grunge from (you guessed it) Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and some StazOn Jet Black images from The Best of Halloween stamp set.
  • I cut the tab off the file folder for this one and stamped the sentiment "Wahoo!" in Pear Pizzazz and the Trick or Treat sentiment from Best of Halloween in StazOn.
Extra products used here are:
Stamps:  Best of Halloween (c134381); Gorgeous Grunge (w130514; c130517)
Ink:  Classic Stampin' Pad in Pear Pizzazz (131180); StazOn Jet Black (101406); VersaMark (102283)
Accessories:  1/8" Taffeta Ribbon in Basic Black (119261); Googly Eyes (retired); Black Stampin' Emboss Powder (109133)
Tools:  Heat Tool (129053)

Finally, I did away with the radar screen altogether:
  • I added a panel of Calypso Coral Core'dinations cardstock, embossed it with the Alphabet Press Embossing Folder and sanded to reveal the lighter core in key spots.
  • I used the Midnight Muse Stampin' Spot included in the kit to stamp the Wahoo! on the file folder and added two Night of Navy Candy Dots. (Close as I could come to Midnight Muse.)
  • I stamped using a Gorgeous Grunge stamp on the back of the Calypso Coral striped chevrons with Pear Pizzazz so they would show up on the background.  I adhered 5 chevrons to the base.
  • I added the Baker's Twine from the kit to the file folder, the bottom of the card and through the Naturals Designer button.
The extra products are:
Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge (w130514; c130517)
Paper:  Core'dinations cardstock - Subtles Collection (129954)
Ink:  Classic Stampin' Pad in Pear Pizzazz (131180)
Accessories:  Regals Collection Candy Dots (130932)

Here's a final look at all of the designs:
