40 Years and a Tuxedo Supremo

This past weekend, my DH and myself celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary! Oh, my, goodness! That makes me sound so old! It was May 6, 1978 - 5/6/78!! Of course, I needed to make a special card for Ken to commemorate the occasion, so I decided to make a card that simulated the tuxedo he wore for our wedding day.

You can see the old fashioned polyester type material in beige that it was made from with the dark brown trim and the off white shirt with the ruffles and the bow tie. It was so on trend back then!! I hope I've managed to capture that with my card.

  • I used Early Espresso as the card base and the bow tie to simulate the dark trim on the tux and Sahara Sand for the beige polyester of the tux itself. It was a three piece tux with a vest so I added a V-cut piece to show that as well.
  • I had the most fun making the ruffly shirt. I used three different layers of Very Vanilla and I embossed the bottom two in the Ruffled Dynamic Embossing Folder, but vertically instead of horizontally and it worked out really well. It's just hard to see in the photos unless I have them really dark. The third layer is a narrow strip down the center for the buttons, which are the retiring Metal Rimmed Pearls. (By the way, the button for the vest is the smallest one from the True Gentlemen Buttons in the Occasions Catalogue.) The second layer and the vest are popped up on Dimensionals.
  • The bow tie is made with the retiring Bow Builder Punch. Don't think I will be selling this punch. I use it too often and it is too handy to give up. But you can still buy your own before it is gone for good.
  • I needed to get some Cherry Cobbler in there, as the 40th anniversary is the Ruby Anniversary, so I used the retiring Milestone Moments stamp set with Early Espresso for the happy and anniversary and Cherry Cobbler for Fortieth.
My hubby was delighted with it, and caught on right away that it was supposed to be his wedding tuxedo! We had a nice day that started with opening a very special parcel from our girls. They put together a book about our life together and it included many memories as well as letters from many good friends and from our family to us. Many tears were shed! We would have gone out to dinner, but my digestive system is on the fritz again right now, so that would have been wasted on me so we shall try again when I'm feeling better.

Stampin' Up! has reduced the prices up to 50% on many of the retiring items, so you can get some good deals if you act fast. Check out what's on sale by clicking on the link below:
