Fishing

My dad used to take me fishing when I was growing up!  I loved it then and I still do whenever I have an opportunity.  There's something delicious about the anticipation.  You can't see below the surface, but you can imagine all the interest your lure is creating!  You wait patiently and not so patiently; you are almost ready to give up, when you feel that little tug!  Then the adrenaline rush as you play the fish and reel it in!

Only I never got to experience that final victory when I was growing up!  Why?  Well, as I found out later, my dad would never take me fishing anywhere where there were fish! Why, you ask again?  Well, because he didn't like to clean them and, truth be told, he had a very soft heart and didn't like to see the fish suffer!
I don't think it mattered all that much!  The fun was in the waiting and imagining.  So many things in life are like that!

My card today is a masculine design which I have been thinking about and seeing samples of here and there. I have to say that the idea I used was from a tag created by Cecile Ortiz, a very talented designer.  But I had long thought that the fish image from the stamp set, By the Tide, would make an ideal card for a man who liked fishing.

I love Cecile's idea of mounting the prize game fish on a wooden plaque and using the small feather stamp from Fine Feathers to make the fly lure at the bottom.  The colour palette of Bashful Blue (a colour that is being retired at the end of May and only available while supplies last) and Pumpkin Pie plus neutrals Very Vanilla and Soft Suede came from the Dynamic Duos Challenge #48.

The sentiment is from You're Amazing, and the plaque is made using the Window Frames Framelits and the Oval Collection Framelits, embossed with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder and embellished with brads from Vintage Trinkets and by sponging with Soft Suede ink.

I even made the hook out of one of the little safety pins from Vintage Trinkets, with a little Linen Thread to tie it.  Does it make you want to go down to the nearest fishing hole and try your luck?  Me, too!

  1. I really like this idea & it made me smile because first thing that came to my mind was one of those singing fish (Billy bass..I think) that were such a big hit not so long ago, lol!
