Enjoy the Fuss for Colour Throwdown and Freshly Made Sketches

After a lovely, busy weekend, which I will tell you more about later, I got a little time in my Craft Cave and decided to make a card that I could enter in two challenges,  Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #147,

and Colour Throwdown Challenge #303, a very unusual, but effective colour scheme.  The layout sketch from FMS was fairly straight forward, and clean and simple!  As 3 out of 4 of the colours in the CTD Challenge were retired or unknown to me, I had to do some substitution.  I used Calypso Coral for Poppy Parade, Old Olive for Lucky Limeade and Pool Party for Cool Caribbean.  Here's a closer look and the result.

  • I just didn't want to take the easy way out and use DSP for the three strips in the design (which I turned on its side), so I went looking for some stamps to use instead.  I found a photopolymer set that I had not used yet, but was dying to ink up: Chalk Lines.  With a narrow matte of Garden Green, I love the way they turned out! And I love using the larger photopolymer stamps for something like this. It makes lining them up and getting them straight a piece of cake!
  • I searched around for awhile to find the right sentiment for this card.  It needed to be simple and it needed also to be long and narrow rather than squarish (is that a word?).  I finally found it in another new set, Big News.  It's kind of ironic that the sentiment, "enjoy the fuss." is used in such a simple card!
  • Again, I tried a few different solutions for the twine in the Sketch challenge and finally decided to use White Baker's Twine - clean and simple.  I added a Calypso Coral Designer Button to bring a pop of that colour into the mix.

And that is all there is to it!  Pretty easy to do, but fun as well.  Speaking of fun, I had my oldest grandson, Parker, visit me this weekend and I really enjoyed his visit.  He is two and a half now and he communicates some big long thoughts and stories so well.  It's so much fun to know what he is thinking about.  I enjoyed some craft time with him.  He spotted the octopus from Sea Street right away, and I got out the Elegant Eggplant Ink Pad because purple is Parker's favourite colour.  Here's a couple of photos:
