The Wilderness Awaits for The Paper Players

Sometimes, I get so mad at my camera. It's such a critic. It can take what looks to the human eye as a perfectly good hand stamped card, and add points of light and fuzzy bits that aren't really there, and I'm going, "Really!??? " I can't even see that IRL! Sigh! Start over! I was having issues with my photos today, but I think I finally have them all fixed. I was so excited with my idea for The Paper Players' latest challenge: To add a dog or a cat to your card.

I don't have a lot of stamps with cats or dogs on them and I couldn't think what to use until I pulled out The Wilderness Awaits stamp set. And there was a magnificent hunting dog, a pointer I believe, indicating the direction of the hunter's quarry! Then I had an epiphany! I thought this stamp would work with the new In the Meadow stamp set with which I could build a scene around the dog. And I would pair it with some Go Wild Designer Series Paper.

Here's how it turned out:

  • I could have water coloured everything, but chose to only paint the dog in shades of Early Espresso, to make him the focal point of the card. Everything else I left black and white. I used the Aqua Painter for the job.
  • The background paper is from the Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack from the Annual Catalogue.
  • I stamped the mountains twice. They blend very nicely together, and the trees, which look like saplings in comparison with my dog, cover up the part of the hills that might repeat.
  • In order to water colour, I stamped everything in Basic Black Archival Ink on Shimmery White cardstock, which holds up to water much better than Whisper White cardstock. The problem was that the camera caught the shimmers a bit which kind of ended up looking like lightly falling snow in the photo. Sigh!

  1. Heather, I love your card. What a great idea to combine the two sets and I like your decision to just color the dog to make it the focal point. Thanks for joining our "Raining Cats and Dogs" challenge this week.

  2. I love that you used this dog for your card....especially since you chose to just color him and left the rest neutral, it really makes him stand out! And I think your photography is fine....do you use a light box? I have a homemade one, made from foam core board, that is really inexpensive and works great! Thanks for playing with my challenge this week at the Paper Players!
