For the Birds

My grandsons' birthday cards are for the birds this year. First, Parker wanted a chicken card (see that one here), then we decided that little Jackson, who will be turning 2 in a few days, would really love an OWL birthday card, but you have to pronounce that OW-WOOL if you're going to get it right. I think owl was one of his first words, and he has more owl stuffies than anything else, so an owl card makes complete sense.

So I had to get out that old favourite - the Owl Builder Punch - and see what I could come up with. Of course, it would have been great if I had got the Cozy Critters stamp set from the Holiday Catalogue, but I didn't, so straight punch art it was!

  • My basic palette was shades of gray and Cherry Cobbler with a little Early Espresso and Garden Green thrown in for good measure. I like the crisp feel of it though.
  • I did use some retired Warmth and Cheer DSP from the Holiday catalogue though because I have SO MUCH of it left over!! I had to get quite a few stacks to get enough of a certain design for a class I was doing! Anyone want some???
  • The sentiment is from a new stamp set in the Occasions Catalogue: Big on Birthdays, which feature several big, bold Birthday sentiments! You'll love the variety in this set!
  • I made a small window in the card and framed it but my Layering Circles Framelits were used to make a frame for the opening. It just gives it a more finished look. Because the framelits are too close to the same size to nest, I cut the smaller hole first, then centered the larger framelit around the hole and die cut it to get the frame. It's not as easy to get an even width though, when you do it that way as opposed to nesting them.
