Here Comes the Sun for As You See It Challenges

This week, for As You See It Challenges, we have a theme challenge, but not your ordinary theme challenge. No, it's a "Fill in the Blank" kind of theme challenge. You see, Amanda starts off the sentence, you fill in the blank and you make your card based on the word or phrase you filled in. Check it out:

The first day of Spring was just four days ago, so this is a perfect challenge for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. For those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, this will be kind of a nostalgic theme. I hope it doesn't make you feel too sad. After weathering a harsher than normal winter, I am really looking forward to spring and summer. And I have to say that what I'm looking forward to most of all is seeing the SUN! We live next to a rather large lake and in the winter it creates its own weather pattern, which happens to be lake cloud, which obscures the sun most days. So we get very sunlight-deprived in the winter. In fact, most doctors recommend taking Vitamin D supplements here to compensate! So my favourite thing about Spring is seeing the sun more often, followed by the blossoms on the fruit trees, short-lived but beautiful, and here is my card depicting all that:

  • I made good use of two old-faithful stamp sets this time: Kinda Eclectic and Petite Petals (when was the last time you inked that one up?) Kinda Eclectic has that beautiful sun stamp which you see here stamped in  Peekaboo Peach and that leaf sprig which I've stamped in Pear Pizzazz. The Petite Petals has the perfect little flower stamp that makes me think of cherry blossoms when I stamp them in Flirty Flamingo.
  • The way I've stamped this reminds me of when I was a kid, lying on my back in an orchard, looking up through the leaves and blossoms at the sun. There is the odd dragonfly buzzing about, which I've represented by using the thinlit from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, with the 5 little dragonflies on it. I cut them apart and used Clear Wink of Stella on both sides and mounted them on the card base using glue dots. I had to leave an area free of Wink of Stella on the bottom so that the glue dot would stick.
  • The sentiment, stamped in Tip Top Taupe, is from the Timeless Love stamp set, and that is just what my heart does every time the sun comes out!
I hope you enjoy some crafting this weekend. If you can, head on over to As You See It Challenges and enter the challenge! We'd love to have you!
